Better Than Char Man!!!
wandernn1-81-68327423 March 2020
Okay another found footage movie that's pretty bad. I think it was aimed in the beginning somewhat at making fun of Google which had some slight amusement to it. I thought the downside of the movie was that the actions of the characters when faced with obvious dilemma are pretty illogical even for stupid people. So that made it somewhat lacking in the last 1/3 of the film.

Why was this made?
wormsoftheerth19 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
OK so I'll open by saying that on paper this movie sounded alright - I saw the trailer and thought "ok another found footage movie about some people trying to debunk a scary video, I've seen a bunch of those so I might as well give this a shot". Unfortunately, in practice nothing about this movie works. #Screamers is a strong contender for worst found footage horror movie ever. This film is predominately focused around the company Gigaler, and it stumbles immediately from the get go. The first HOUR or so of the movie is literally just a guy filming people in the office doing day-to-day stuff and giving background on the company. The weak writing is instantly apparent; despite spending an absolutely inordinate amount of time on the inner workings of company, the writers seem to have no idea what this company does or how one even works. It's like they just threw together some buzz terms they read in an article about google: uh yeah this company does uh...social media...and videos...and, uh, steals people's privacy...somehow. Oh and they have a foosball table because modern tech startup! Nothing about the company makes much sense and nobody seems to do all that much there. Also, why is there a guy filming everything people do? Another issue is the character writing. For example, they hype the main boss guys up like bigtime entrepreneurs who have been at this for a long time and have created a(nother) seemingly solid business, yet at the same time the guys act pretty clueless and like they're still grasping in the dark hoping to find their big break. That big break apparently lies within a couple of short videos that show a girl and then a head pops up with a loud scream jump scare, ending abruptly. Um, weren't these jump scare videos being done like 10 years ago? Five Nights At Freddy's has way better jump scares and it only took one dude to make vs. this crap from an entire film crew/studio. Anyway, back to the dialogue: case in point, when the boss calls the lady who makes the videos it should have been unsettling and introduced some tension / creepiness to showcase the forthcoming scariness that will be associated with tracking down the videos. However, the conversation is super awkward and unintentionally comedic. The boss doesn't seem to know what he is even doing, and the lady sounds bored. That is representative of all the movie's dialogue - awkward and confusing. This is a huge problem being that this movie is 95% awkward, pointless dialogue and a mere 5% stuff happening. Even with all the bad dialogue, they could have made up a bit with the scary parts, right? Wrong. The whole video thing is highly unbelievable. The videos themselves are like 10 second clips with 0 budget that aren't creepy in any way. There is not a single thing about these videos that would get people curious as to who is behind them, especially not enough to physically go after them. In my opinion, they should have dumped all the budget into making genuinely bizarre, creepy videos that would intrigue viewers. Later, there is something about the whole thing being a hoax and the company trying to get publicity by exposing it, which is a decent idea, but I was so bored and off-put that I had lost all interest by then. Also something about Jack The Ripper? Who cares. Nothing scary happens. There are no deaths, no on-screen tension, no spooky stuff, etc. Ultimately the movie is terrible and beyond boring and I would encourage you to avoid at all costs.

Probably the worst movie I've ever watched. Sharknado had more plot than this trash
danielleosborn19 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
First hour of this movie is literally just a guy filming what goes on day to day at their office. So boring, I had to skip ahead. Then they get the "scary footage" whatever. More boring office chatter and boring dialogue. Then they all decide to go solve the mystery, and in the LAST FIVE MINUTES is where it gets "scary." And I'm using scary VERY VERY generously. For the rest of the movie, you literally just see this random dude in a mask who keeps screaming into the camera as the camera crew disappears. You don't even find out what happens to them. Did they die? I don't know! Who is this man in the mask? Why does he and this random Tara chick live in this house? What happened to Tara for her to have gotten there? No backstory, no explanation of why any of this is happening, no resolution, literally no plot at all. I can't believe I finished it. I was really trying to give it a chance. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I literally think all the people who wrote these reviews were paid to give 5 stars. If i hear that scream one more time, I will smash my computer. There wasn't even a difference in any of the screams. It was literally a pre recorded scream that they just kept playing over and over again as the masked guy appeared. SO FAKE SO BORING SO STUPID PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME

Not even scary.
mat123-120 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The movie fails on every aspect. Its not scary, its not funny, almost zero suspense. But the plot, oh my God. They introduce an algorithm startup in 2016 like its something knew. Then the whole company employees AND THE BOSS go traveling after a prank video "mystery" (really?), like its the ONLY thing that could make them great. A common, regular, 10 second video that a monkey could make at the basement. And then, after no escalating, a mask fellow screams at the camera, with zero background, zero emotion, zero reasons to be there or to be creepy. And thats it. You don't even get to know if people are killed or what. The whole boring movie just lead you to about 4 miserable screams. The end.

A lot of nothing with a few jump scares
ekwetherington20 June 2021
I watch a lot of these found footage movies and I can appreciate the slow burn style, but this movie takes it to an extreme. It feels like they got to the end of the movie and realized they forgot to put in anything scary, so they hit us with a series of the same, lazy jump scares. The first jump scare in the beginning of the movie totally got me, but my immediate concern was "is this all this movie is gonna have?" Sadly, it was.

Nothing is horrible about it, which may have actually made it interesting. Hard pass on this one.

Calling it a snore would be far too kind.
S_Soma27 April 2018
I'm very prone to watching, and actually liking, trashy found footage horror films. Check the archive of my reviews and you'll see this is true.

Even with that being the case, this movie is absolutely god-awful. It is possessed of exactly zero redeeming value. Admittedly, the acting isn't bad, but the actors are neither doing or saying anything that you would ever want to see or hear. It may as well be a found footage movie of people cleaning a bathroom but with less entertainment value.

A found footage film is typically a lot of glacially slow buildup to a climactic scene right at the end where you get your little doggy-treat payoff of some actual horror or something supernatural as your reward for having invested all that time in the lead up. Not in this movie. All but no buildup and then a nothing payoff at the end.

Take everybody's word for it in the reviews here. It's the biggest nothing of a movie ever made. Especially don't watch it trying to find out why everybody says it's so bad.

Too slow paced and poor ending
Saiph9021 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen worse which is probably more of an indictment of the films being made today. They spend a long time explaining what the company does but do we care? The boss of the company is pretty unpleasant and there is no empathy with the other characters. They get a film of a purported snuff movie but then a bloke leaps in front of the camera and they go on like they have invented Freddy Kruger. They go on a journey to find the girl, some nice snowy, bleak scenery they throw in a Jack the Ripper link get chased about a bit by the bloke in mask and it ends.

Enjoyable But Slow Paced Found Footage Film
I am glad that I was not put off by the low scores and poor reviews, I enjoyed it and thought that it was well acted. There is not a lot of action until the end but I still found the whole thing interesting and boy it make me jump a few times at the end!

This is actually a pretty good found footage movie. Pretty good acting, a very mysterious storyline, and some jump scares. Though "screamer" videos are very outdated and stupid, this movie takes something everyone thinks little of and has never thought deep into, and gives it a scary back story and spin. The film's plot revolves around a website and the website similar to youtube. Videos can be submitted to the site by viewers by one of two ways. One way gsthers all their info and the other, apparently, does not. A mysterious video is added anonymously and it garners the attention of the crew quickly . The website director ends up talking on the phone with the girl in the video in an attempt to find out where it came from. After getting nowhere, and after a long, but key to the story, first and second act, the group sets out to unveil the origin of the footage and to prove the authenticity of it. The director being very excited and oblivious, is aided by his weary crew into the dark of the night. The setup is creepy and the locations used are goodand scary. The house of Tara is extremely scary. The movie sort of has that raw sort of feeling that U only see in certain found footage films such as v/h/s, blair witch, hooked up, etc. Only intellectual horror fans and die hard found footage fans will know what im talking about. The movie is slow paced but doesn't feel overly long. The characters are convincing enough and even kinda likeable. Good not great. Worth the watch even the buy for collectors.

Waste of time
amz-2930127 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This had absolutely no story line. It doesn't make any sense and the only reason it could constitute a "horror" is cause you might get a fright when the thing squawks. There is nothing of interest in pretty much the whole thing other than the last 10 mins and even then it's nothing spectacular. I fast forwarded through some to see if the end would at least be interesting but it wasn't.

aucottjohn21 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I couldnt vote it any lower than a 1 and I hate myself for giving it that.

It starts off with a bunch of ego ridden nobs in an off e and then progressively gets worse. Right at the end you see someone scream and then that's it, just a total waste of time

I like rubbish horrors but really don't bother with this one
samcunningham-386981 December 2018
Horror films often get a low rating but I enjoy them anyway. This one however I thought was utter rubbish. I jumped the first time but the rest was predictable with a boring story line. I wouldn't recommend it as it's 80 minutes if your life wasted!

The only thing that makes one scream is the all-round terrible quality
TheLittleSongbird25 August 2018
Was drawn into seeing 'Screamers', with a cool poster/cover, a promising trailer, an intriguing premise and as someone with a general appreciation for the genre it fits under. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there (though there are decent to good ones as well), made me though apprehensive.

It is sadly however yet another film seen recently, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws present in those films are here, that to me was incredibly disappointing considering its potential which it doesn't do anywhere near enough with. 'Screamers' is really quite abominable, with so many huge flaws and doesn't do anywhere near enough with its potential, which was quite a good deal. There is nothing good here in 'Screamers', the only thing that makes one scream is how terrible it all is.

Going on to the negatives, the story does feel over-stretched and some of it comes over as vague and under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less unsettled and never gaining momentum. All the characters are too sketchy and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates. The chemistry is bland and unfocused.

Making the film feel bland and forgettable with not enough heart put into it. The sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions) and all of the acting is lacking severely on the whole, that's actually an understatement as the worst of it is horrendous.

Dialogue can be stilted and rambling while the pace and film drags on forever, apparent from the very start, doesn't recover. The ending has no build-up and just ends with no resolution. Found too many of the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense. Thrills are none, thanks to stodginess and excessive over-familiarity, and found myself never invested in the drama, which tended to be overacted and statically directed.

A lot of 'Screamers' has really dull and going nowhere plot elements and often nonsensical and confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you shocked are far from creative or unsettling.

Nothing freaky or interesting, no development and too derivative, while everything is unimaginative and are more odd than scary, completely failing to show any sense of dread. There is nothing interesting or illuminating with what the film was trying to do and the drama is overwrought. Some badly sagging momentum too and a lot of weirdness. The direction is leaden, got the sense their heart was not in it, and the music is ill-fitting. 'Screamers' is very amateurish visually, making one feel nauseous and actually did feel a headache coming on.

Altogether, irredeemably terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox

If I could rate 0 I would
serahserah24 July 2019
Ok, so low budget, unknown actors etc etc. They made a little film, good for them. However it is just terrible. I kept watching hoping it would get better, because I wanted to give them the benefit of doubt. It was a total was of my life. It has potential. But too much time was spent following egomaniacal characters congratulating each other. Do not waste your time unless you want to learn how not to make a film.

Worst Movie Ever
cocherdumas21 August 2018
The movie starts out slow. I have it a chance and kept watching it. The ending is so bad that I think this movie was made as a prank. As a prank, it got me good. I wasted about 90 minutes I will never get back. As a movie- it was the worst. I've seen alot of bad movies. This is the worst!

Confused film
markusibbetson21 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
First off, (for those who don't know, (I was one of them) 'Screamer' videos are those once popular internet pranks where you complete a maze or watch a short video, then a horrifying face pops up on your screen accompanied by loud scream, which scares the s**t out of you.

There could have been a good, Ring-esque plot to this film - somekind of supernatural entity uses the Screamer videos to kill people. The writer of this film, howeverm, didn't have such a great idea.

Weirdly for a horror film, the weak sauce horror is confined to the last 15 minutes of the film. 90% of this movie is nothing more than a in-house mockumentary, with interviews with the members of staff at an internet company (what they do exactly is unclear, at least to me).

The company is sent a couple of Screamer videos featuring the same woman and after reading comments the staff figure out there's a good chance she's a woman who went missing a couple of years before. So they decide to become investigative journalists (still no horror up to this point).

After some investigation, computer hacking and rewatching the first video. The staff talk to the woman who submitted the video, who sounds like she's in an abusive relationship with someone called Francis. They realise the first video contains the grave of Jack the Ripper suspect Francis Tumblety and decide there's some sort of hoax going on.

With the home address of the woman who sent the video, the staff decide to pay her a visit and demand an explanation (which is where the horror finally comes in).

The horror and scares in this film are very weak. When the killer finally does appear (in the same mask he wears in the Screamer videos) and takes out the main characters nothing is really shown because the whole film is done with handheld cameras and phones. Its a lot of build up to not a lot.

What I disliked most about this film is that there's too much mystery - too many unanswered questions. Like, who is Francis and why does he kill people? Why has he kidnapped a young woman and had somekind of weird relationship with her for two years rather than just killing her? What was the point in including Francis Tumblety's grave? Was the killer trying to emulate Jack the Ripper? Was he actually somehow JtR? Why did Francis make Screamer videos? If it was a way to lure people in, then it was a poor way, the only way the staff were able to find his home was through computer hacking (most people can't do that).

This confused film is 98% mockumentary, 1.9% slasher flick and 0.01% supernatural horror (Francis chases someone outside his home to kill them and at the same time seems to be in a closet killing (or not) someone else).

The film ends with Abbi (member of staff) in a new Screamer video, which again begs the question 'What's the point of the Screamer videos?'

I wouldn't really recommend this film unless you really want to watch a 'horror' film and have nothing else to watch.

Very bad
mvike26 February 2019
The only reason it gets a 2 is that the quality of the filming is below "shot on my iPhone 4s".

You know those really annoying, stupid screamer videos friends would send you, where it would be something random to relax you, only to have something pop up on the screen and scream?? Yeah, that's what this movie is...that's it.

It's a group trying to I guess trace the origins of these "screamer" videos.

I can't believe this was made. NO ONE likes those screamer videos, everyone gets pissed off when they get one, so why would you make a film about something people really hate? It would be like making a FICTIONAL movie about a person who abuses dogs. Why would anyone want to watch that..?? I'll give you a hint...THEY WOULDNT!!

There is NO horror at all other than the screamer videos, and if you truly believe that scream videos are legit horror content? Then horror isn't your genre.

How did we go from, THE THING, EXORCIST, AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON...to a horror film literaly about Internet screamer videos ...?
