Out of every season in Bates Motel, this has been the best one without a doubt. I mean, the writing this season has been phenomenal and each episode has kept me really engrossed.
I mean, Norma's death was absolutely astounding, and the way in which they set up that whole scene was unbelievable. From the song Mr. Sandman playing, to the camera work, to Romero busting down the doors and saving Norman and crying over Norma, it was brilliant. The best part about it was that I didn't even see it coming. I mean, Norma is an integral part of the show, and I have no idea where the show will go without her being a part of it. I guess Norma's death was required in order to send Norman really off of the deep end now. I guess he will finally become the Norman Bates everyone knows from Psycho now that Norma is out of his life. But who knows, maybe Norma is still alive and they have just fooled me. I guess we will see next week.
Also, the tension b/w Romero and Norman is great. I've had a strong feeling that something bad is going to happen to Romero all season long, and based on what we've seen this episode, it looks like there is no longer a place in Normans life for Romero. It will be great to see what happens with them next episode.
In addition to this, the relationship b/w Dylan and Norman has progressed in such a great way as well. The fact that Dylan knows Norman had something to do with Emma's mother's dissaperance has just been a Chekhov's gun waiting to go off all season long. I can't wait until Dylan confronts Norman about this and how the confrontation will play out.
All in all, this has to be one of the most underrated shows on television and probably one of the best shows that has been on the air in recent memory. If the actors, writers and directors don't win Emmy's for this season and get snubbed by mainstream shows like Game of Thrones I am going to be irate. I mean this is a show that deserves endless praise, yet it doesn't have the largest following for some reason. All in all, this season has exceeded my wildest expectations, and deserves much love. Good job Bates Motel, good job.
