Got My $5 Worth

I bought this out of a bargain bin a long time ago in the oft chance it would be entertaining and partially because I used to be a sucker / enjoy / have a weak spot for FMV game titles. I can tell you that 'Paparazzi!: Tales of Tinseltown' checked that box and for the money I paid - it was totally worth it.

I don't think anyone grows up fantasizing about being a paparazzi - snapping photos of celebrities, but this game boils the concept down to basics. Spoof Hollywood and the major egos, get pics of famous people in embarrassing situations and get paid. Oh and something about ethics and be respected / liked otherwise having to bribe your way into places.

You get clues on where to go in town from fellow photographers, news agency contacts, your agent or even celebrities themselves if they like you thru video "phonecalls". Otherwise you're surfing the silly in-game tv with a bunch of channels and a variety of fake programs that are either meant to provide tips on where to be or simply humor in the way of lampooning well known celebrities, tv show types, even funny commercials.

Beyond knowing where to go to get your pics at the right time, your in-game camera can only take two pictures once you're there. Increasing the difficultly or to put it bluntly a cheap way to give the game a sense of trial and error replayability. You can also have your camera broken if you're not careful (and need the money to repair it or game over) and even be killed in an instance or two if you're not careful. There's an option to "Flee" on the camera as well. If you got your shot and are done, in danger or choose a place where nothing is going on.

A cheap price tag for a "game" that is almost not so like many titles in the FMV genre. A medium sized window of video (came out in 1995), but luckily some fun humor, cheese acting and obvious digs at celebrities of the past made 'Paparazzi!: Tales of Tinseltown' a hoot all things considered.
