Beautiful Film

Warning: Spoilers
Railway Children was brought to us in my college. I would never have watched a Kannada movie because I don't understand the language. However, this movie hardly relied on the dialogue to deliver the message. The actors did an amazing job and the story was very intense because of the issues it hit and it did it with utmost sensitivity. This film deserves a lot of recognition.

Clever and Sensitive Film
maitreyd21 December 2017
Railway Children has to be one of the best Kannada films made in the recent past. The director has done a great job in weaving a tight narrative involving good editing and a riveting screenplay. The child artistes also a do a commendable job, and the awards they have won nationally and at the state level are well deserved.

Railway Children's sensitive handling of difficult topics such as addiction, child abuse and child labour should be appreciated, never once does the film feel preachy or trite. I only wish more such films are produced by the Kannada industry.

Probably the best Kannada film I've seen in many years.

Warning: Spoilers
I watched the film at CSAFF last night. The film is unbelievably honest and frank. As a Kannadiga living abroad, I've get to watch 2- 4 Kannada films only every year. Railway Children is by far the best I've watched in the last 5 years.

I was so proud to see the audience applaud the film in the end. The positive ending elevates the film to a great new height.

And the young actors!! Wow! What a great work they've done. I was blown away by Parimala.

*Spoiler* A girl plays a boy and it is revealed only towards the very end. There were murmurs in the hall. Even with all the clues, I could not guess that it was a girl!!! What a performance Parimala has given.

I wish that this film is screened for more audience across the world!

A fine film

Warning: Spoilers
Watched the film free screenings organiced by the Kanataka Chalachitra Akademy.

Absolutely great performances from every actor. Loved the screenplay, direction. GReat technical effort by the team. And this one comes with a TWIST in the end!!!

The subject matter was handed with such deftness that it didn't seem like a movie at all. Like it was all happening before my eyes. Best part to me was the acting. I cried a couple times.

But, I think I missed songs and music. Also, I think the subject matters should have been explored better. We need to see more of gang activities.

Overall 10 out of 10. Great job!!!

A Fresh Perspective.
puneeth-3599422 December 2017
The Movie tackles a lot of prevalent social issues is a very refreshing and subtle manner, from orphan/runaway children to homelessness, poverty, underground economy, domestic and substance abuse. The story picks up steam slowly but the payoff at the end is worth the wait. One of the better made Kannada movies or any language movie for that matter.

A film that reflects reality that we often ignore
rohitism21 December 2017
The film is about the lives of runaway children on railway platforms. We see them and yet we don't see them. The film is about Raju and Jollu and other friends who end up on railway platforms and about their adventures and indulgences. Things get rough and exciting and dramatic for them, but the fact is its all real-life and nothing is exaggerated. Telling us stories that were always around us, the film is bound to change the way we look at railway children and street children. A rare film, a must-watch!!

Warning: Spoilers
It's a brilliant movie, it touches all the issues faced by children who run away from home or those who just don't have anyone to look after them and the best part is the plot twist. Loved it. I hope more people watch it.

A movie worth your time
iambrijesh30 October 2017
Runaway children in India are on an equal footing with orphans, with nobody to help and many to allure and abuse these children end up in the whirlwind of crime and mafia. Living on the Railway Platform these kids have to overcome such odds as addiction, abuse, deceit. 'Railway Children' a Kannada feature film produced by Tindrum Beats through crowd funding and directed by Prithvi Konanur unwinds the world of runaway children through the eyes of Raju, a 10-year-old runaway and his partner in crime Jollu. Both being recruited by a local goon and a cruel boss Solution. Exploring the themes of crime, drugs, corruption, sexual violence, abuse, addiction and particularly untouched trans-gender issues. The movie is approached in a documentary style being inspired by real life events and based on a research book "Rescuing Railway Children", by Lalitha Iyer and Malcolm Harper. Unlike many Prithvi navigates the story realistically as opposed to just being emotional. This realistic approach further helps the audience to understand the situation of these children and the help they get or the lack of it. 2/3rd of the movie is shot on Railway platforms and cinematography of Eswaran Thangavel is commendable. With an on cue music by Chandan Shetty and unforgettable performance by child artists Manohar and Parimala, ending on a positive note this gem is not to be missed.

Welcome the change in the industry.
DRPai21 December 2017
When people complain about the plights of Kannada film industry, still lagging in comparison with the neighbouring film industries, comes film makers like Prithvi Konanur with Railway Children. Railway Children isn't a children's film. It has a solid storyline which incorporates various social stigmas like drug abuse amongst children, child labour and harassment in various ways towards children. The film leaves you spellbound with no loose ends. The climax is just mind boggling and highly effective. Yes, sometimes the bgm seems a little cranky, though it nowhere kills the essence. But don't miss it. It's worth every penny you pay and more. And of course, the picture posted in IMDb is a testament to the claims above. All the best team Railway Children.

Disturbing
joelukephillips8 September 2022
The heart-wrenching tale of young runaways in India. Every 5 minutes a runaway child arrives at a big city by train. This film could easily have been a documentary and is an unfortunately accurate depiction of life for these youngsters.

Every child has a story whether they have run away to escape abuse, poverty or neglect, they dream of a better life in the city but the cities are more dangerous than the lives they left behind.

This tells the tale of one such child 'Raju' who is left with little alternative but to join a street gang organised by an abusive Fagin type character. The kids forage through bins and empty trains. Most are addicted to sniffing glue.

The dangers are everywhere, whether it be rival gangs, drug dealers or paedophiles. Raju makes a new friend in Shivu and together they enlist the help of a former bully to try and strike out on their own. All appears to be going well until their boss finds out.

The story is slow-moving but compelling and there is an interesting twist I never saw coming.

On a footnote: The Railway Children of India is a charitable organisation that gives these kids temporary shelter whilst making efforts to reunite them with their parents.

Sensitive film
raviraj-5971922 December 2017
Railway children very subtly talks about gender issues in the society. Prithvi Konanur's this brave film, deals with children who work at the railway platforms. The nexus between the local goons and the business of railway children. Konanur steadies this film with very intelligent sequences and a master story telling technique. The twists in the film are so surprising and yet so real. Film succeeds with natural acting from Manohara, Parimala and Yash Shetty. Please support this wonderful film.

A Mustsee Movie
lalithaiyer17 December 2017
At least 3 good reasons why you must see this movie 1. a well made taut aesthetically appealing film -superb acting by children with no prior claim to fame 2. a uncompromising adherence to reality - no exaggeration, no hiding -of the harshness of platform life for children 3. offering a hope and a way out without trivialising the problem and more than all this an honest effort to sensitise us to an invisible issue we need to support such independent and sensitive film making

it makes you think...
shettypavvy23 December 2017
Once in a while you stumble upon a movie or a book that makes you think no matter who you are...think about what you have taken for granted ... Railway Children is a discourse on our sensibilities that are attuned to the projection of material life around... it makes you question about the realities and look at the world with someone else's eye.. and makes you go home thinking.. brilliant performance by the actors ...and hats off to the director for the experiment...

Fnatastic movie
vladhardware7 February 2019
The movie was brought to Bhuvaneshwar at a local society film festival. I was blown away by the movie. Acting of every actor was great. Direction was pretty good.

Screenplay didn't have a solid plot which was disappointing. Editing was choppy.

But overall a solid movie.

Beyond the true story
justforuuu22 December 2017
The story narrating is like beyond the true story, it depicts as a real story which usually happens at every metropolitan cities railway station. The story never let you out of reality of today's society. The climax of the story will be surprising and interesting makes you believe this kind of movies are best. This movie with the true incidents, even the characters also can be awarded for their acting as if a real character. The director is very successful in handling the children as a actors. This is ultimately a new kind of movies in kannada filmy land which gives a hint that kannada movie land is far changing towards best.

Heart rending
radhagupta-3810012 May 2018
It is sad that movies like these do not get the required attention. Thumbs up to the director who came to Christ University to promote the film. This movie made me realize how lucky i am. I will be more grateful now.
