back to Stars Hollow
30 December 2016 | by See all my reviews

Most of the regulars are back to Stars Hollow. Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and Luke Danes are living together. Rory (Alexis Bledel) is a nomadic writer with a boyfriend of two years, whatshisname. She's reluctant to dump him while having an affair with Logan Huntzberger who is about to get married. The family is still dealing with the death of their patriarch Richard Gilmore. Emily (Kelly Bishop) and Lorelai go to counseling. Lorelai and Luke consider having a baby with the help Paris Geller (Liza Weil) who runs a surrogacy agency. Sookie has been away for two years and Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) is back.

It's great to visit Stars Hollow. It's about 10 years later after the end of the show and many things are still the same. The Palladinos have made it a little more surreal than I remembered. It always had that small town fantasy aspect but the emotions felt real. Kirk has his outlandishness which is both hilarious and silly. The return of Paris is a load of fun if somewhat weird in her new job. I'm glad that Rory finally ended up as a small town editor. Her career maturation has always been a weakness in the show. It could never been real and it's never that funny. There are some fun inside cameos. There is a large contingent from Bunheads. Peter Krause shows up and so does Mae Whitman. I would have like Rory to call her a sister from another mother. I really like the little bit cameo like Francie Jarvis in the bathroom. Most of all, I love the show diving so hard into Richard's death. It gives this its emotional heart and Kelly Bishop delivers as always. Then there are Rory's final words. I like the symmetry in the men of the Gilmore Girls although it would be more compelling if it's season 6, 7, or right after the show ended. Ten years later is a little long in the tooth for this development.
