Plot Summary

At work, Astrid is admired by her fans as a famous cabaret artist and privately a second child is on the road to complete her family happiness. But her world is turned upside down overnight when she learns that her unborn child has a serious heart defect and will be born with Down syndrome. Together with her husband Markus, she now has to make the decision whether she will opt for a late abortion in the sixth month or give birth to the mentally and physically disabled child. The otherwise strong woman is torn and poses agonizing questions: "May I judge the life and death of my child?" Long discussions within the family and with her mother Beate follow. In the end there is a decision - but it is not one with which Astrid and Markus are completely at peace, either way not. Written by Kino
