Tales of a Broken Reality is a fun experience into a very dense steampunk universe. Its very theatrical in its presentation often full of hefty monologues, but always full of narrative drive. The director takes his time with developing the characters and compliments them well with plenty of quirks and internal struggles. In spots the editing could use a softer touch as it often feels a bit stagey, however, the narrative throughline shines bright enough to distract a viewer from the issues.
What truly makes TOABR success is its heart. It is abundantly clear that this is a passion project fueled and motivated by fans of steampunk and science fiction. For me there was a pure delight in watching their work get progressively better over the course of the production. I can see them developing their skills as filmmakers - I saw it episodically - each episode growing in production value. Its worth a watch if you're a fan of steampunk, science fiction and most importantly a true supporter of independent cinema - not as a genre, but as a methodology.
