The series depicts the first meeting between Albert and Victoria as a tense one, but in real life when Queen Victoria met Albert she felt attracted to him, being one of the few men close to her age.
Victoria proposed to Albert on 15th October 1839 and before this scene they dance a Gay Gordon which was easily recognizable as The Barren Rocks of Aden. This tune was composed in the mid 19th century when the 78th Seaforth Highlanders were stationed in Bombay so at least one or two decades after we see Victoria and Albert dancing to it. The British took Aden in January 1839 after the Sultan of Lahej reneged on his deal to sell Aden to the British.
