Ed Cochran, the best guest star on TV since Dickie Bennett
8 November 2016 | by (Brazil) – See all my reviews

This is my first review of Ray Donovan, I wished I've started it earlier but this episode deserves a special nod, definitely one of the best in the show so far in a season that's not as strong as the first three, but elevated it's game after Episode 6.

Then we get crippled, maniac torturing weasel Ed Cochran, played by Hank "Moe" Azaria returning for an episode that probably guaranteed him the Emmy, even though his karaoke appearance earlier in the season was also very funny, this episode he steals the show just as always, and the writers were smart to keep him around since he's better as a guest star than with a recurring role, even though he played an amazing part as a regular on Season 2, just as Dickie Bennett did on Justified, he elevates the main character to a whole other level.

Jon Voight as Mickey Donovan is amazing and hilarious as ever, this episode showcases that, specially with the part where their sons and Conor need to convince the police officer responsible for his transfer that he's gay, the look on all their faces, specially Abby's made it even more hilarious.

The only problem with the season so far is probably the incest storyline, what only started as a "spiritual" guide for Ray to have a character who went through a similar situation that he did, if not worse has played it's hand, and at this point is time to move on from that story, focus on the fight and wrap it up.

Great episode, not the best on the show (that easily goes to Walk This Way) but probably the best in the season so far next to Fish and Bird.
