Ingenious psychological thriller
Daniel18951 August 2017
Damien wakes up bound and alone in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. For days he tries to survive without food or water and, worst of all, having no idea of what he is doing there. Fuzzy memories come to his mind to add a new level of torture: he remembers his father accusing him of murdering his family. Without knowing if his kidnap is a mistake or, simply revenge, Damian is about to die when a man from the band of kidnappers comes to take care of him. Through his memories Damian tries to reconstruct the sequence of events that lead him there in search for his identity. The Blood of the Rooster is an ingenious psychological thriller skillfully written by Pablo Del Teso with a storytelling and visual style rarely seen in Latin American cinema. The direction, by Mariano Dawidson, stands out for its crudeness and its frenetic pace. The script, skillfully develops a fragmented plot, outside of the conventional storytelling in which both Damian and the audience must assemble the pieces of the puzzle to discover whether or not he is a murderer. On the negative side we can say that at times the director seems to get too excited about the visuals and forgets about the actors'performances. In short, La Sangre del Gallo is a good story, well told and with a visual display that makes it difficult to go unnoticed.
