Just found out about this show today, via watching Dumbest criminals for some reason while eating lunch and then a friend brought up the voting episode up on Facebook. so i checked it out. I'd want to punch this guy in the face if he wasn't so right. i always figured the Diamond ring thing was a scam like valentine day cards etc. I remember ten years ago being told of a stupid made up holiday, it was like Friendship day or something like that but more romantic. Sweetheart day maybe? . Whatever it was, i was supposed to buy some candy crap for my girlfriend. I went to this store by work, called the Nut shop. Sweetness day, that was it, anyhow i show up, announce i have to get stuff for sweetness day and the ladies laugh at me and ask me what the hell am i talking about. "Its Sweetness day", dumb ass 27 year old me tells them. they laugh. they were really mean ladies, i would go on later on to get pistachios to make a pistachio cake and they sold me shelled ones with out telling me they had unshelled ones and my finger nails were bloody after unshelling. anyhow , smart 27 year old me goes "If you guys (purposely said, women hate that, especially candy store ones ) were so entropeneuring, you'd like advertise this holiday and make a profit.". but what do i know. did i mention they are out of business. Anyhow where was i going, i m not sure but i did get married since and i let the wife drive to NYC to some guy she knew who sold her a ring that i paid for. i recall her getting stuck in traffic for most of the day and as scummy as that sounds, she was unsure i would get the right ring she would like. Shes from a family of shopaholics and they are idiots in that way. so i guess this long story is i was surprised by something, i was furious when i thought, what would happen if i sold her diamond ring. The whole blood diamond thing pisses me off to begin with but she has no other stone we would agree on. Oh crap, we are such shills to the system and marketing.
Now for the food drive, i was a Deacon chairman at my church and i saw how many of the food drives are worthless. Actually there is a ton of canned food taht is expired and unable to use for lawsuit reasons. I know some people still give it away but its hush hush use at your own risk but those expiration dates are usually crap based on all the salt and preservatives in the cans. But donating money is what i used to prefer to do and the norm so that made me feel good that i did something right. I mean it was nice donating to local food pantries for that purpose but i see how money is better. just make sure you know who the money is going to. a lot of them are total scams. People argue about churches should pay taxes but i warn, if they do, they loose a lot of resources to give and charities based with churches have open financial records so you know its going somewhere good. IM also a printer and i work for a lot of charities , mostly Israel and i see the parking lots of these charities with all hi end cars etc. be careful.
