Poor excuse for porn "suspense", lifted from "Gone Girl"
lor_18 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
DP house director Jakodema ruined my day with his horrendous porn ripoff of HBO's "True Detective" and this time he steals from "Gone Girl" -not a parody but just a lousy imitation.

With a so-called "parody" one goes for scene-for-scene & visual cloning, a dreadful XXX practice I wish would die out. But seeking inspiration from mainstream properties is as old as porn itself, and often results in classic movies, take "Nothing to Hide" (very loosely from "Of Mice and Men") for example, or the title inspired wonders like "Devil in Miss Jones".

DP contract actress Eva Lovia stars in the plum role of an unhappy wife who frames her philandering hubby (poorly cast and poorly acted by Erik Everhard) for murder. Jakodema changes most of the story line, which is to be applauded, but he is not talented enough to make anything useful out of this presumably sure-fire premise. I especially hated his writing out both principal characters for long stretches of the feature - a natural thing to do in episodic porn where the viewer craves variety but structurally unsound.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

More miscasting occurs on the other side of the law. Lesbian icon Dani Daniels is, no surprise, later involved in lesbian sex with anti-heroine Lovia, when it's revealed she not only investigates the case but is in league with Eva all along. Her partner on the force, Derrick Pierce, is quite candid in the silly BTS featurette included on the DVD when he notes that he plays cops with his shirt on, but bare-chested or with his sleeves rolled up he's typecast as a thug (voluminous upper body tattoos have something to do with that). His performance here is terrible, and DP's ultra- cheap set purporting to be police hdqts. is embarrassing. Especially from a label that was known back in its salad days for lavish productions such as the "Pirates" and "Island Fever" series.

Mia Malkova is sympathetic in the role of Erik's loyal sister, but otherwise the cast is underwhelming. This is not among Eva's finest hours, and upstaging her, in supporting sex role as Erik's mistress, is Alexis Adams, also deserving far better from the casting gods. As Jakodema's story line gets more complicated, actually far more complex than that of "Gone Girl", it also goes off the rails with unconvincing and illogical twists. Notably, framing by Eva of Erik for the murder of Alexis rather than his wife (her), and the preposterous antics of wooden Bill Bailey as Erik's untrustworthy lawyer.

Jakodema's staging of even the simplest non-sex scenes is awful, especially a final reel demise of cop Dani which I can't call amateurish since that would be an insult to trying-hard amateurs everywhere. Unlucky me has several more Jakodema videos at home waiting to be watched - I wish I had quit while I was behind.
