Well this episode was quite the eventful one. First, we had the return of Stick, played by Scott Glenn, a favorite from season one. But we also found out more about The Hand and also some Elektra backstory. Of course, there's also the cameo of Wilson Fisk at the end, but we'll get to that.
Jon Bernthal deserves an Emmy nomination. The man can do no wrong in my opinion, and this episode was a perfect example. Just watching the man's facial expression during the trial is really all you need to understand everything going on inside his head. You know he wasn't going to plead guilty and you know he wasn't going to 'want' help from the city for his behavior. That's not who the Punisher is, and so I'm glad they stuck to that with his decision making.
This is also similar for what Elektra is going through as well. Matt can hope to change her all he wants, but at the core, she's a killer, as we so gracefully saw at the end of the episode. Learning Elektra works for Stick in taking down The Hand, shouldn't be all that surprising, but it certainly makes for a more interesting story going forward.
Karen and Foggy were once again let down my Matt's shortcomings. It's frustrating to see the three not be on the same page but it was also inevitable. They have to go through something as a group so that when they team up again it's that much more impactful. With so many moving pieces, I'm not exactly sure where the story goes from here, but I hope they handle the Wilson Fisk situation properly. I don't want to see him end up being the big bad and pulling all the strings "the whole time" sort of deal. As long as he's used only when needed, I think we are in for an epic final 5 episodes.
