Spaghetti Western?
fredwilharm24 September 2018
Reminiscent of the Spaghetti westerns of yore, One Step Behind is an unusual and unpredictable thriller with a distinct Western theme. It has some talented lead actors and a very stylized colorization scheme. If Westerns are your thing, give it a try.

Fascinating!

I found this to be an interesting and braze combinations of genre - old style western morphed with thriller/drama. It made it interesting to watch and actually makes for quite refreshing viewing. Quite experimental? Yes but it seems to have worked!

Thrilling and Mysterious

One Step Behind is truly unique in it's story and presentation. Part exciting neo-western, part dark mystery, it is original and stylish. I love cross-genre films and this indie is no exception.

Not good
Call-Me-Mr-Smith29 April 2019
Another amateurish attempt in film making. No redeeming qualities here, underwhelming in every aspect. As for this being a western, there is a guy wearing a stetson... That's it. 2/10, barely.

A Western As They Once Were
TheAll-SeeingI23 April 2019
Here's hoping the indie filmmaker's heart never turns away from the Western genre, as Mark Stephens' One Step Behind harks back to the genre's spaghetti-evocative heyday of a pre-cable youth. In doing so, it delivers darkness and efficiency of storytelling in the way that only indie really bothers to attempt anymore.

Thomas Fisco has a credible edge to him in the lead role of Will, who doesn't remember the reign of darkness he's brought on the world, while those around him remember it with all-too-much clarity. More antihero than hero, Fisco conjures more than a tinge of menace when called up. It's a believable presentation, and one that the full cast benefits from.

To me, if you're doing indie western, you're living and dying by the score. This one is uniquely its own, straddling the line between folksiness and the apparitional. It sells the film. Ultimately, Stephens triumphs with a blend of great concept, storytelling, and execution. One Step Behind breathes a lot of life - and hope - into a genre that's as much a part of our fabric as any.

Modern Western Thriller

One Step Behind is about a man, Will, who has a sinful past, and who wakes up in the care of a mysterious woman. He doesn't remember what he's done, kind of like Jason Bourne in the Bourne Identity movie. As he remembers he's confronted by the people he's wronged. Good Indie Western flick!

Unique & suspenseful Western Thriller

Props to the filmmakers for pulling off a suspenseful, atmospheric, Western thriller - a unique combination of genres! This film keeps you thinking and guessing, which is half the fun. Definitely worth watching.

A definite indie gem!

This slower burn modern Western thriller is different, and more compelling, the films like it due to it's non-linear storytelling approach. You'll start to question what you're seeing, which is hard to pull off, but writer/director Mark Stephens does a fantastic job of it. A definite indie gem!

Clever indie Western thriller
vroth-892219 April 2018
I think this is my first Western thriller. It has a little old West with a contemporary feel, a little dark atmosphere and an indie vibe. You have to pay attention as the story builds, but you get a good payoff at the end.

A really fun movie to watch

I really enjoyed this film a lot! Terrific story. I thought the Director, Mark Stephens, did a really good job. It's always a tricky premise when a person "wakes up" and lacks awareness of their past. But this film I feel pulled it off well! It was fun watching the lead character try to string together his past. Bravo to all and good casting too. I thought all the main cast did a solid job!

ONE STEP BEHIND is a highly effective and deeply dark Western thriller!

ONE STEP BEHIND is a highly effective and deeply dark Western thriller! I loved the use of the desert as the backdrop as it's so iconic to westerns. I also thought the lead actor Thoms Fisco was dynamite and menacing on a degree you don't usually see in indie films. This dude can act! The camera work really added to the feel for me and I also loved the music. Classic guitar in westerns always gets me. Lastly, there's a great twist! One Step Behind is a bonafide indie western that fires on all cylinders! NICE WORK!

Western Mystery
alanakmd25 October 2019
I love the melding of genres in this Western/Mystery. The lead awakens with no memory of his past and tries to put the pieces together. Very compelling viewing. Loved the score! Acting and cinematography very well done. Highly recommend!
