Actors Grace Monaco (as Jamie), Jamil Lindsay (as Anthony) and Danielle Purdy (as Sophia) were cast into these roles at the last minute due to scheduling conflicts with the original actors who were cast in these roles. All three actors only had 2-3 weeks to prepare for their roles.
In the late winter of 2017, director/producer (Shadow C. LaValley). chief editor (Dan Maranga) and first assistant editor (Karin Jacobson) worked three days straight in seclusion at a cabin in the Catskill Mountains of New York. This is where 75% of the film was edited, leaving only special effects and minor edits remaining.
This is the first feature film that Shadow C. LaValley has directed and the second feature film from director Shanna Becker.
Around the holiday season in 2014, Shadow was sitting with his Mimay (aka Grandmother) Gertrude and his Mother (Lynn.) In a discussion which encompassed both real and humorous moments about their lives at the time, Mimay made the statement "Someone should make a movie about all of this." Shortly thereafter, Shadow started working on the concept of the film Drive, originally titled Mimay. Concept was finalized in the spring of 2015, when Shadow started reaching out to industry connections in central New York who would be willing to work on the project. Unfortunately, Mimay passed away at the age of 90 in 2015. Just three weeks before filming started.
