The original RTE TV origin back story, started with their introduction on RTE children's programs continuity strand Dempsey's Den/The Den/Den TV, in 1987, as having crashed landed in Dublin, Ireland. They accumulated a huge adult cult following even though they were actually just doing continuity between the programs. Later they moved their career to the UK where they would be most well-known for work on Channel Four's Big Breakfast. This brand-new animated children programs semi-reboot RTE/CBBC version seemingly has Zig and Zag land on somewhere in the north of England/Midlands, which is perfectly understandable localization choice considering the much larger UK audience, and there's a chunk of BBC funding the co-production.
