Somehow worse than I was expecting

Warning: Spoilers
The 1st episode of Rosewood was awful. Now I'm not a consistent viewer of cop/medical dramas, and I knew I was going to only be tuning in for repeats later down the road, but there was too much exposition. I understand its the pilot of Rosewood. However, all the characters did was tell us what their problems & issues were instead of showing us. Det. Villa is still angrily reeling from the sudden death of her husband. Rosewood tries to live life to fullest because his heart could give out at any moment. These plot points are important and character defining. But each character had to tell us this in detail before the end of the episode. It felt rushed and unnatural. They could have hinted at this. Perhaps Villa could have mistaken Rosewood's extensive drug taking as a addiction problem as opposed to a health issue. Villa's anger and pain could have built and built until she finally trusted him enough to confide in him. The only thing that happened naturally and believable occurred between Rosewood's sister and her fiancé. I hope the later episodes do better.

Warning: Spoilers
There are two main characters we have Rosewood, the Beethoven of private pathology, and a new detective in town, the youngest beat cop ever promoted to detective in the NYPD.

Rosewood's character is both coherent and interesting, though nothing particularly unique - somewhat reminiscent of Lucifer. The detective on the other hand less so, in fact, I'd go so far as to say she's one of the worst written characters I can think of off the top of my head. If that wasn't bad enough her acting is poor.

In this single episode, this new lady detective commits (illegal) assault and battery on three people, trespasses and illegally destroys private property. Its hard enough to imagine she'd be able to remain a beat cop far less ever be promoted to detective. Any career would almost certainly be cut very short, she acts worse than most crooked detectives characters who can act with impunity protected by their corrupt buddies/force.

That in itself isn't necessarily enough to reject the whole series, but it is quite clearly going to be a repeating trope and will never be addressed.

Even ignoring her character altogether the series is lacking much of the details of the crime remain blurry even by the end of the episode as they are just never addressed which would be poor in a 20 minute episode but in a 45 minute episode is more likely indicative of poor writing overall.
