This game is a classic in the horror video game genre,i don't even know why some people here are giving it a bad review..look dont expect it to be like the first one which is also a master piece,dont compare the two because we know its hard to beat a first release practicly in most franchises and Red Barrel wasnt aiming to top the first one,it was aiming to give fans a different story and perspective from the first one of which they did very well.

When I played outlast two, the bars were set very high for the sequels to beat. When I got to play this game at a friends house, I was excited to see if the sequel actually beat the first game. The answer is no, but outlast two was very damn close to raising the expectations. While the game was scary, the sequel held back the psychological horror factor unlike the first game where the developers go all out. The game did give me a lot of scares throughout, but I wasn't traumatized at all from the gameplay, like the first game. The mountain setting and the cult added some sense of dread to the game, but it wasn't as unsettling as the asylum setting and the asylum patient enemies from the first game. But still, despite its flaws, Outlast 2 is a frightening game that despite its flaws and the fear factor being held back that is an enjoyable experience when playing. When I played this game and the first one I was connected to a heart rate monitor and had either one of my siblings or my friend record my heart rate. But this game didn't make my heart beat as fast as the first game, which I had a crap ton of anxiety when playing.
Side-note for parents: like the first game, this isn't a game for kids as it contains unsettling material, graphic violence, and strong language. But between outlast and this game, this one is more for kids as outlast one will cause some psychological damage to your kids after playing it. While outlast two will just give the kids some anxiety.

This was a solid horror game that has a creepy atmosphere. The game has an interesting idea and the setting in the woods. It was well done. The game delivers plenty of shocks. The game wasn't as scary as the first Outlast, but this is a satisfying experience. The game handles the dark really well in a place where the evil could attack the main character from anywhere.

I played this game for the first time a long time ago, I hated it and left me disappointed, maybe because it didn't live up with the first game. But now I got the chance to play it again, and now I understand it.
Outlast II is a bloody, gory, controversial, messed up and disturbed work of pure art. Very effortlessly, Red Barrels just have the power of horror to create a masterful horror story. Of course the story in the first Outlast is better, the characters at some point are better, but that's not the point.
The story writing was incredible, extremely complex and very mature in both storytelling and narrative design. The soundtrack and the sound effects added more to the experience its eerie aesthetics. The setting is on point, both Temple Gate and the School locations are amazingly designed. The graphics and the visuals are insane, these graphics are basically one of the best things I've ever seen in a video game, truly impressive and visually stunning.
Overall, Outlast II is not for everyone. If you're looking for fun stuff this may not be for you. This game will make you terrorized, stressed out, weirded out, disturbed and maybe traumatized.

I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was a great game. This sequel is great, scary jump scares. Creepy atmosphere and other horrific/effed up stuff. My only gripe about this game is the ending was confusing (NO SPOILERS!). Other than that though I still recommend this one! Really enjoyed it!

The school scenes in outlast 2 were very good but never compare outlast 2 with 1 outlast 1 is defenitly a 10 first I played the 2 yesterday I bought the 1 and after 1 hour i realised the first one is the best horror game ever made.

I used to hate this game, mainly bc I didn't understand it. But now I've played it multiple times and finally understood it to fully appreciate it. It's a masterpiece and an example of how sometimes brilliance is misunderstood. Every thing, literally everything about this game is well made. I owe Red Barrels an apology for dragging this game, it deserves more love and recognition.

After I finished the outlast and the dlc I headed into this and well,it's a breathtaking horror game,the jumpscares are expectable but still scary! Only one big problem that one isn't enjoyable like the first two,so sorry red barrels,only 7/10

I will begin my review like I always do, with an anecdote:
It takes places a year ago, after I finished reading Stephen King's It; and during the time I was reading it, it mentioned the Jonestown massacre (the one that took placed on Guyana, during the mid 70's). I had heard of this tragic event, from other sources, such as Spanish videos of cults by Angel David Revilla ''Dross"; and after of it, my curiosity grow and decided to search some information related to the tragedy... I end up shocked...two years later, 2023, some months ago I finished playing Outlast (the first one); I found out a little while later that there was a sequel (Outlast 2).
All a can say, to make all of this short is:
Outlast 2 is much more extreme than the first one, you will love it, but at the expense of you sanity (of course, that is an exaggeration), but if you don't mind a bit of masochism; than play it...You had been warned.

OUTLAST 2 is a horror survival game that, similar to the first game, has you play as another investigative journalist, that is soon ambushed by a horrific cult. While this game is still pretty unsettling and at times terrifying, it doesn't quite pack the same punch as the first game. This game has definite Jonestown/ Manson family vibes, yet takes place in remote Arizona desert, with a twisted pseudo-religious cult. As a player, you are made to be highly defenseless and vulnerable hich amps up the tension.
"Investigative Journalists Blake and his wife Lynn, travel to the Arizona Desert to pursue a lead on a popular suicide, but are soon ambushed by a mysterious and terrifying cult."
Overall, this game is a pretty great horror game, fun to play, and definitely disturbing. I've heard it had to be severely edited to allow it to be able to have the M (mature rating). This was a great way to get creeped out.

When I first bought this game, I was a bit skeptical about if it's going to be as good as the first game because when the first game was released, the bar was set really high and the expectations were also high for the sequel.
Needless to say that I was not disappointed.
Pros: The gameplay is smooth and easy to learn as it is the same as the first game but with a few new features. The creepiness of the environment helps with the tension. Amazing characters and great enemies and a great learning curve. The Content's shock factor can't get anymore shocking than a cult with a lot of satanism and a part where your character gets sexually assaulted by a group of cultists during an orgy as well as a implication of a child being sexually abused by the cult.
Cons: The ending, in my opinion, was a bit of a letdown but was a good conclusion. The gameplay does get repetitive even with new features. The enemies can get a bit generic. The fact that you have to record a lot of things in order to progress without a problem can get tedious. The opening, while setting the stage for the game, is a bit bland.
Overall: The game, while having a few setbacks that prevents me from giving this game a 10/10, is a very well-made game. Red barrels definitely gave me a really scary and traumatic experience in the form of a great game. And this is a compliment.

It shocks me that people consider this a genuinely good game. Everyone entitled to there own opinion, yea, and i'm entitled to disagree. Let me start with its positives.
The Graphics and voice acting is on point. Both fantastically done. The audio is the scariest part of the game, the music is eerie and the the sound design does help with the atmosphere of the game.
Now the bad. The game's story makes absolutely no sense. Without going into too much detail, the main character has flashbacks to his childhood which is supposedly connected to the main plot. The school segments are some of the creepiest and most well done segments I though so what connects the flashback to the main plot, Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It makes me wonder why the hell the school flashbacks were even there. The main plot itself is very lackluster. There are many points in the main story that make no sense and worst of all. 70% of the game IS NOT SCARY
This is what the first outlast did perfectly. The claustrophobic environment of the asylum lead to little escape options that added to the scare factor as well as having memorable boss battles like Walker and Dr Trager. This is where Outlast 2 suffers. Most of the encounters are done in wide open environments meaning if you get spotted you can literally run circles until you find out what to do next.
There are "bosses" but I literally forgot there names, There's the girl with the cross and the Ferra/Torr ripoff's if that counts. The story also suffers from what I call Tomb Raider syndrome. The main character literally gets shoved through barbed wire and hanged on a cross and the fact he is still breathing does nothing but pull you out of the immersion which is especially detrimental in a horror game.

I really liked the first game and the dlc but Outlast 2 improves on what was good with the first game. It is scarier (especially the school sections who sometimes made me wanna quit the game because i became too afraid), better atmosphere/graphics and i really liked that the protagonist (Blake) could talk unlike the original when both Miles and Waylon didn't speak at all because in that way, you can symphatize more with Blake and his thoughts/feelings. The villans were frightening and very scary. The scariest was the school teacher with his monster form. The setting in both town/forest/mines and the school flashbacks gave a lot of different environments.
Overall, more variety of everything here than in the first game.

I'll keep this short. While this game is not as good as the first, it's a damn good sequel. Where it really shines is during the "school" parts. That gave me and underlying feeling of dread. Honestly, I'd start sweating and experience genuine fear. Never felt that with the first one.

I have not seen the ending to this game or anything like that so I probably shouldn't be reviewing it but I don't care I'm a rebel. Outlast 2 takes place after Outlast 1 and Whistleblower. It has you take control of a man named Blake Langermann, the camera man for investigative reporter and wife Lynn Langermann. They were exploring a report of a Jane Doe found dead and pregnant in the desert of Arizona. When they get there, the helicopter crashes leaving Blake to search for Lynn in the desert. Later it's revealed there's a town in the desert that is basically a cult. As he sneaks through the town he finds his wife Lynn who is revealed to be pregnant. This would be a good thing if they weren't being chased by a cult of hillbillies who believe they should kill every baby born to prevent the anti-Christ from being born. To top that off there's another cult in the mix fighting the other cult. So you and your apparently pregnant wife are in the middle of a bloody cult war. With no way of harming your enemies you must either run, hide, or die. The game has a great story with truly horrifying moments, taking what made the first Outlast amazing and multiplying it. With more controversial topics such as murder, incest, rape, and religion, Outlast 2 is not for the easily triggered of feint of heart. Other than that it's an amazing game. Definitely worth a play and the praise it gets.

The game has good scary jumpscare moments and good suspense moments, but after awhile it became really repetitive with the whole back and forth garbage. You have no idea what's going on? It's hard to care about the story because if the two location jump. It became annoying and boring after awhile, and to pay 60 usd for this feels like a huge ripoffs. I pity for those whom actually paid full price for this garbage. I pay 6 nzd and i fee like it's a waste. The story made no sense, the suspenseful music just got annoying after awhile, none of the villains are memorable. The only good moments from the game was The computer chat scene, where you're talking to Jessica and she asked you to turn around. That was phenomenal but everything is absolute trash.
