Poorly-done Skow treatment of typically goofy Stanley script
lor_6 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the worst David Stanley/B. Skow collaborations for Girlfriends Films, with both auteurs to blame for the poor results. A story film clocking in at an indigestible 3 hours, it is badly cast, mainly badly acted, and both sentimental and self-destructive.

The feature cannot be discussed without Spoilers, as it opens with a very dull dialog scene by married couple Billy Glide as Robert and lovely Devon as his wife Carol, badly edited and poorly shot by Skow (choker close-ups and sloppy use of un-synced dialog from time to time). He finally cuts to a long shot and Devon asks Billy: "Close your eyes and make a wish", at which point a crummy special effect (reminiscent of lousy old Vivid videos by Stanley such as "The Contestants" a decade before) has Devon suddenly run over by a speeding car. An idiotic reaction shot closeup of Billy completes this awful introduction.

But it's downhill from there, as Stanley indulges his penchant for mysticism and fascination with death (which he once atttibuted to his experiencing a near-death incident himself) as Devon returns not as a ghost but as a spirit who has taken over the body of Ana Foxxx, promising young Black actress - rarity in 21st Century porn.

Skow uses either actress interchangeably in future scenes, playing with the reincarnation theme without much skill. It's not confusing, merely self-indulgent, in keeping with Stanley's dumb script.

Carol has returned because she left a promise on the table at the time of her traffic death: she was dedicated to reconciling Robert with his teenage daughter Dana (played by AJ Applegate), who has rebelled against him. With maudlin music and soap opera plotting they eventually get back together again, the only surprise being that David and Skow refrain from going to the incest bag for a logical conclusion.

Making this all far worse is the casting of Tommy Pistol as AJ's boyfriend. He plays a despicable, selfish creep without nuance, just a chance to show off his consistent overacting tendencies, and he's way too old for the role making for lousy sex scenes, too. Abby Cross is thrown into the mix as a girl giving Pistol a blow job at a party, with Skow trying to add a bit of kink by having Pistol enjoy touching an unconscious (drunk?) Applegate lying next to them as he gets his rocks off.

SUPER SPOILER:

Finale is the coup de grace, a patented insult to the audience by Stanley, duly (and dully) delivered by Skow. Ana as Carol #2 leaves, her work being done, but then we see the actress driving along at the end and a second stupid sound effect piped in to indicate another car crash (not shown). Is this merely a flippant "who cares?" pornographer's ending to kill her off, now that her stint as Carol is over and Robert is finally ready to move on with his life? Or is Stanley mystically creating some Moebius Strip type of structure whereby Ana was the driver who killed Carol by texting while driving in the first place, and the dumb movie is starting all over again? Either way, what a disappointing 3-hour disaster, made worse by its morbid theme amplified with star Glide's untimely death soon after the DVD's release.
