Checklist horror
timothygartin2 August 2020
Creepy doll - check. Abandoned house - check. Hidden cams - check. Demon pretending to be dead family member - check. Paranormal mumbo-jumbo - check.

Yep, this sequel has it all, except characters that are enjoyable to watch. Where the original had believable characters, these are cartoons of characters. This was a disappointing sequel.

Very Disappointed.
byronhold25 October 2022
I know I'm one of the few fans of the original film, but I thought it was a lot of fun and I have no problem watching it over and over. I only recently discovered that it had a sequel and was thrilled....until I watched it. The fact that only three of the original cast members made appearances with two in very minimal scenes was an issue for me. The new cast were so dreadfully annoying that I couldn't wait for them to be picked off. The script was so far removed from the original concept of a haunted asylum that it really made little sense. The camera work was so grainy I couldn't see what was happening through much of the movie. The main complaint I have is that this film lacked all the charm of the original. I wish Kellog would have written a sequel that captured the spooky fun of the first. Hopefully, he doesn't gamble on a third.

Hard to swallow

Warning: Spoilers
OUT OF THE SHADOWS is yet another indie horror flick based around the premise of a paranormal TV crew exploring the confines of an abandoned and apparently haunted building. I suppose when there's this level of awkwardness on the part of the actors it counts towards the natural realism of the piece but the silly ghost scenes and endless padding makes this hard to swallow.

An Absolute Waste of Time

If you're looking for a decent horror film with good jump scares or a great story line, then avoid this if you can.

This film features everything a bad horror film entails- bad acting, a terrible story line and less than mediocre jump scares. Sure, there's one instance where a jump scare got me but other than that this is one of the most bland horror films I've ever seen, and it features and overused concept that is dying out.

Let also not get past the fact that this film looks like it was made on a student budget, with the crew also serving as the actors (which explains the bad acting). Allan Kellogg should really rethink how he made this film, and given it was funded by Indiegogo I'm not surprised this didn't work out so well. Someone should scold his cinematographer for terrible camera angles.

To summarise this whole review, I would suggest avoiding this film if you see it on Netflix or Sky. I'd give it a 1 but I enjoyed one jump scare, as it's pretty much the only good thing about the film (Besides Wesley, of course, he was the only decent actor/character in the film.)

Nah.......Just Nah.

2 out of 10 was a very generous rating from me. Only gave it a 2 because of a couple of half decent performances & a couple of creepy looking scenes that almost worked. Almost. This film may not be bad enough to give you a migraine but it WILL give you a mild headache. The plot & narrative are a mess, you'll be left wondering what's going on, who's doing what & why they just did it. I like this kind of film if it's done well. This wasn't. The 10/10 reviews on here have got to be from vested interests, I can only hope in my small way, I'm doing something to balance the overall score. Muff Cabbage.

The worst
charliemiles-775294 July 2020
I've seen a lot of bad horror movies. This is awful to a whole new level. Not even so bad it's good. A painful, agonising watch, this is by far one of my least favourite movies. Why would anyone watch this Z-Grade horror film that borrows from The Exorcist, The Shining, Paranormal Activity, and any supernatural horror that's come out in the last century. Nauseating camerawork, thin scares, and awful characters, The Devil's Toybox is horror done wrong. Really wrong.

Ugh. Terrible acting.

Meredith Kochan(plays Brooke) is by far the WORST actress I've ever seen. It truly doesn't get worse than that performance. Don't waste your time with this movie.

Don't waste your life on this one

I still am trying to figure out how this got a 10 from some viewers. During this movie I, fed and watered the cat, cleaned litter box, played a few games then, did my nails. I never did watch the whole movie....it was to painful. Those who gave this movie more than 2 stars are, the actors themselves, friends of the cast and producers or anyone under the age of 12. 10????? Really?????? My idea of movies deserving of a 10 are, Alien, The Grudge, Prometheus and Baskin just to name a few. I suggest anyone giving this movie a 10 go and see how a REAL horror movie is made and acted in

Fun scare!
jenniarms28 October 2017
Such a great movie for a good old fashioned creep scare! My heart was definitely racing for some of those scenes. The natural acting of the cast made the point of view camera concept more believable. I am one to appreciate movies made to tell a story without having to spend a lot of money on too much theatrics and gore. Well done DTB! I will definitely watch it again!

Love it. Seen once but will watch again and then buy it on Blu-Ray

Really enjoyed it when I watched it for the first time yesterday. Some great scares. I want to watch it again another couple of times. I won't leave any spoilers. Beautiful cast and decent location along with the storyline. It was also decent. Will be purchasing it on Blu-Ray. Anyone who loves supernatural movies will like this.

Really enjoyed this paranormal movie!
melissajelliott-3104723 October 2017
I absolutely love paranormal movies, and now I can add this one to the list! I watched this movie late last night with my boyfriend in the pitch black. We definitely almost jumped off the couch at least a half a dozen times! I have been following their Instagram page for sometime now, and it's finally been released in the US. And I was not disappointed! I already knew this was a low budget film, so I wasn't comparing it to Hollywood blockbusters. I really enjoy indie films, and I love supporting the newer actors and filmmakers. For a low budget movie, some of the actors were excellent, while others were just OK. But you'll see that in every indie film. My boyfriend and I loved it, and would definitely recommend to others.

I watched the first installment of this film and hope this one is as good
donaldwaynestephens17 July 2023
Just started watching this today on July 16th 2023 at 8:20 p.m. And so far I think they may be doing better then they did on first installment (7 nights of Darkness) but we will see and I will rate it at end and tell you all what I think and I'll give date and time when I am done also. So 9:19 p.m. Not sure how much longer is left but so much better then first installment and I hope you each watch this I'll write more shortly but absolutely plenty of twist and turns just one thing I hate is the negative they speak against Religion and faith on one segment or scene. But in closing I'll say this no one will regret watching this film but if you have not seen the first installment (7 nights of darkness) watch it or parts of this will not make sense. 9:45 p.m. July 16th 2023

I pray blessing and guidance unto all and ask that each take time to thank God for the life you have and by your actions show him your appreciation. Amen.
