The Decade of Darkness (2007)

*** (out of 4)

Good, if incredibly incomplete, look at the horror genre during the 1980s. This 23-minute documentary features interviews with Joe Dante, John Landis, Tom Holland, Stuart Gordon, Bill Moseley, Dee Wallace Stone, Catherine Hicks and Elvira. Each of them discuss various trends that were in the 1980's horror film and we take a look at movies like THE BROOD (not even the 80s), THE FOG, THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, DOLLS, PUMPKINHEAD, THE Texas CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, CHILD'S PLAY and THE HOWLING. If you're looking a documentary that covers the entire 80's horror films then obviously you're not going to find it here as this is basically a promotional piece for MGM to sell their horror movies. As you can tell, all of the horror films discussed here are from them so we get clips from those movies and we get the known, familiar faces to discuss them. Fans of these people are certainly going to enjoy listening to them and for that alone this here is worth watching. There's still no doubt a complete documentary on the decade would be nice.
