Sex & Nudity

  • A man is seen in loose pants. Underwear is visible, no nudity.
  • A woman says, "...that turns me on." to her husband. It was said as they were preparing to leave out the house. Nothing happens.
  • A woman and her husband are lying in bed. She kisses him and then the scene cuts. (You can see bare legs.)
  • It's mentioned that someone watches a lot of porn. Very brief and not detailed.
  • Young couple are cuddling and making out at beginning of film.
  • A man says "you cocksuckin piece of fuckin shit" non sexually

Violence & Gore

  • There is a shootout which is one of the more violent scenes in the film. Some one shoots a man three or four times with blood shown coming out. Then the man gets the other man to the floor and starts to gauge out his eye. Until some one else runs him over and kills him.
  • The film contains some scenes of strong violence and chaos, including explosions when pressure cooker bombs are detonated and/or when grenades are thrown by terrorists during a police shootout.
  • There are also scenes depicting heavy gunfire exchange with some bloodletting, with scenes featuring the aftermath of the explosions at the marathon, depicting bloody injuries such a severed leg, and a leg with a gory wound.

Profanity

  • "Cocksucking" is said once (non sexually)
  • Frequent strong language, used in outbursts of anger or just normal conversation.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • J.K. Simmons smokes cigarettes, along with that there are a number of scenes of smoking
  • There is a brief scene depicting drug use where a college student is shown to be smoking from a bong.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The 10 minute Watertown shootout is the most intense and frenetic scene in the entire film.
  • The aftermath of the bombing shows adults and children in severe pain from their injuries, as well as brief but graphic close ups of severed limbs. The tone is appropriately intense and will be distressing for most audiences.
  • 'Patriots Day' is a crime drama (from the Tsarnaev brothers's point of view, a biographical film) about the terrorist attack during the 2013 Boston Marathon, where two bombs were detonated, killing three people and injuring 250+ others. The film also follows the investigation and the subsequent city-wide manhunt to find the terrorists behind the attack.

Violence & Gore

  • Near the end the final terrorist is in a boat in someone's back garden. You see blood on the sheet covering the boat on the hole he entered through. They then start to shoot the boat repeatedly and they chuck in flashbangs until the man comes out with blood on his face and arms and hands.
  • When the bombing happens the film stages this very realistically. It used recreated footage of it happening including severely injured people with profuse blood and protruding bones
  • A man fatally shoots a policeman in his car at close range in his cheek. Blood splatters on his windshield and the policeman tries to fight back in shock before being shot again, this time in a wide shot from a distance. The scene is brief but has a strong element of horror and distress.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The body of a young child is shown under a sheet and left on the sidewalk for hours under the watch of an officer. Not graphic but upsetting.
  • One person, Dun Meng, is carjacked and is threatened by the same people who were responsible for the bombings. When his seized vehicle stops at a gas station where one pump does not accept debit cards, Dun Meng waits for the last minute to escape. Just as Dzhokhar leaves the store, Dun Meng quickly escapes the car and runs to a nearby other gas station so that he can call the police with a real possibility that the terrorists could have gunned him down in the attempt.
