Boring!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Very old byomkesh. I'm disappointed. This is not near the theory of detective film :( It's not traditional byomkesh film. Dhritimaan Chatterjee as Byomkesh is a bad casting. Ajit seems to have lost his novelist charm. Film at times will make you feel that you are watching an art film (though every film is...but you know what I mean). The film looses links between scenes which makes it difficult for the viewers to clearly understand. Koushik Sen is not so bad. The worst thing is that Byomkesh is not a 60 year old man in this story. I mean the age was approximately 45 Years in the novel. In a nutshell, if you have an enemy, convince him, take him to see this movie.......and yes do take ear pegs and sleeping mask with you.

Suspense thriller

Based on Saradindu Bandopadhyay's Byomkesh Bakshi novel Sajarur Kanta is about a series of mysterious murders where the quill of a porcupine pierces the heart of the victim, killing him or her instantly. It begins with the murder of a beggar, but the peculiarity lies within the murder weapon. Which is a porcupine thorn. Byomkesh Bakshi sets out to find answers and wants to know the murderer's motif and his choice of weapon. Deepa (Konkona Sen Sharma) is a lead actress of a theatre group, her marriage gets arranged to a wealthy Debashis.Their chemistry is crackling but the script doesn't allow the romance to bloom. Moreover, Dhritiman's Byomkesh is quite far removed from the character we know, speaking English with a British accent and effecting theatrical expressions and dramatic entrances. Kaushik Sen's Prabal is intense but falls victim to a poor script. The film is touted as a thriller, but thanks to the poor editing there is little of that thrill left by the time the end credits roll.

Byomkesh remake film
aghosal065 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This classic Byomkesh thriller was directed by Late Smt. Manju Dey in early 70s. I did not get the opportunity to see that film but I have read the story several times. The director tried to fit in the present time with the thriller story that was written in 70s . However in doing so it was not clear to me as to why it was necessary to invoke "sleep-walking" habit for the killer to commit most of the crimes in a systematic way which do not happen at all. The sleep-walking killings almost all the time occur at random. Also investigation procedure shown in the film lacks logical steps that an investigator will take as described and developed nicely in the original story. The director failed to connect the dots to make it a successful thriller. Shri Dhritiman Chatterjee as Byomkesh did well as what he supposed to do while Ajit's role as the assistant was just satisfactory. The central character Dipa ( Smt.Kankana Sen) should have been crafted more carefully which the weak script and direction did not permit to do so. Overall the movie failed the expectation of "Byomlesh" standard.

Warning contains Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me put it in simple words. If you think that you would see another smashing Byomkesh Bakshi, then your dreams are going to get shattered. A slow paced, 3hr+ film is not a good characteristics of a detective movie.
