The opening "Silly Simpsony" is a takeoff on Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies (a series of music-themed cartoons). In particular, 'Music Land,' which depicted a struggle between classical music and the (at the time) emerging style of jazz with anthropomorphized instruments.
When Bart hits Lisa with a spelling toy, he gets as far as A, E, I and O. The next two lines of dialogue begin with "You" and "Why."
Moe develops color photos in a red light. Color film is sensitive to all colors of light, and must be developed in darkness. Only black and white film can be developed in the presence of a red light.
