Funny and fresh for the most part
phd_travel3 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A spoiled rich girl loses her money and is forced to take up service job in a Sporting Goods Store and move in with Mom. As expected she learns a lesson or two and becomes a better person and finds love. There have been some movies like this before but this one keeps it fresh and funny. The dialog is well written and jokes are well delivered.

Anna Hutchison does a good job as the leading lady. Jonathan Wood is her love interest. Gail O'Grady looks pretty as her mother.

The only let down is the pseudo drama that ensues when it is revealed that she isn't really poor but just being taught a lesson by Mom. As if the guy would be so angry if he found out his girlfriend had money.

Worth one watch.

Pleasant surprise after witchy start
Jackbv12318 June 2021
This movie starts with a premise that isn't quite as overused as some - rich girl goes broke. I kind of expected something like Harvest Moon.

Then about half way the story takes a turn I didn't expect and I liked it. But once that was established, the ending was predictable.

I wasn't in the mood to watch Anna Hutchison be a witch so I used FF button a lot through the first 20 minutes. After that she does become a different person and it was one of the more blatant personality swings I've seen. I always have to remind myself that this genre of movie always pushes reality way to the side and that's to be expected.

Anna Hutchison and Jonathan Patrick Moore had chemistry and it was nice watching them together.

The kid is a bit precocious, but adds a nice touch.

You got to stick with it
Sergiodave30 January 2022
I fully understand those that turned off the movie after 10 minutes, I almost did because the lead character was awful, but stick with it and if you are a lover of romance or redemption then it will put a smile on your face, I know it worked for me.

Gail O'Grady gives any movie zip!

Warning: Spoilers
Okay, I'm a sucker for any movie with Gail O'Grady since her NYPD Blue days.

The star of the movie is the gorgeous Anna Hutchison. Her sparkling eyes just light up the screen.

I also love to see Constance Marie from Switched at Birth.

Miss Right
TheLittleSongbird3 November 2023
'The Right Girl' (2015)

Opening thoughts: Have always had a thing for good premises, which is one of two most common reasons for seeing a film, television programme and such. The other being good, talented casts and there are plenty of films out there that have that. Both the good concepts and good casts aspects have wildly varied in success in film and television, and that is including films from the likes of Hallmark, Lifetime and UPTV. And also including recently, having seen some frustrating wastes of potential.

Luckily, 'The Right Girl' was not one of those wastes of potential. While it didn't start out that way, it was for me actually one of the films that did meet and exceed reasonably high expectations (due to really liking the concept). As far as recently seen Hallmark, Lifetime, UPTV-like films go, 'The Right Girl' is among the better films. Like others, there was the temptation to turn it off, but as someone who makes a big effort in giving all films a fair chance and not bragging about only lasting less than half an hour (which is the equivalent of not watching the film etc in my view) this viewer did stick with it and it was worth it.

Bad things: As said, 'The Right Girl' does not start off great. Actually thought the first act was pretty weak, with some very awkward and over corny dialogue and a female lead character that was so difficult to like with being so excessively nasty and rude. To the extent that there was real doubt as to whether she would have any form of character growth.

Did think too that the ending was too telegraphed too easily and too early and in a way too pat, especially with the overwrought conflict drama that came before it.

Good things: On the other hand, this viewer is glad about sticking with 'The Right Girl' after its shaky start, because everything that happened in between was quite good. Anna Hutchison and Jonathan Patrick Moore are very likeable leads and thankfully Hutchison's character does grow significantly, with nothing rushed about how she changes and evolves. Moore has the infinitely more likeable character and plays him very charmingly. Their chemistry is very easy going and genuine. Gail O'Grady steals every scene and is a funny breath of fresh air.

Furthermore, the script flows well from the first half an hour onward and is suitably light hearted while not being cheesy or too schmaltzy. The story, even with the predictability, has a nice energy and is heart-warming, wisely not taking itself too seriously without going too far on any ridiculousness. The characters are more than typical genre cliches and generally endear, with only reservations with Hutchison's character in the first act. The film looks nice, particularly the scenery, and the music doesn't intrude or feel too much.

Concluding thoughts: Concluding, shaky start but gets infinitely better if given a chance.

7/10.

nice fairy tale
Kirpianuscus28 May 2023
A Hallmark as so many other. The difference, at the level of nuances, is made by actors and by the axis of this seductive story.

A rich woman proposes a bitter lesson to her spoled daughter. The result of this bitter medicine is more than great - two jobs, a boyfriend, the son of boyfriend becoming more than important part of her preocupation.

But, sure, the lesson is not only for student useful in this case , but for teacher to.

Being an insignificant admirer of Costas Mandylor, I admired his more than good job in the role of pizzeria boss. But, in same measure, I admired the fair and fine manner to use all the potential of her role by Gaile O Grady. The result is just charming.

The little problem - maybe Jonathan Patrick Moore. For my taste, to young for the role of father, coach, boss of sport articles shop. But, sure, it is only a problem of taste and the beauty of the last scene, so predictable, is result of exactly this young look.

So, exactly a nice fairy tale.

Charming, feel-good movie
herrcarter-9216129 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a fun movie to watch. For ages, we have enjoyed the rags-to-riches story, such as Cinderella, but almost as engaging is a riches-to-rags story like this. In this movie, it's satisfying, on the one hand, to see Kimberly, our spoiled little rich princess, taken down a peg or two. But it's also satisfying to see her freed from her golden cage and finally able to experience a normal life and establish normal relationships with normal people and not just sycophants who only like her for her money. The saying "Money can't buy happiness" may be cliche, but it's also very true. You need only read headlines about the messed up lives of some of the rich and famous to realize that. It was great to see Kimberly learn that valuable lesson.

The performances in this movie were good especially Anna Hutchison as Kimberly. She was cute, warm, sensitive, and she made you like her in spite of her faults. She lit up the screen in every scene she was in. Jonathan Patrick Moore as her love interest Michael was good too. He made the character of the good-guy, single dad very believable. You truly felt for him as he tentatively approached the scary reality of falling in love again after his loss. The two of them had reasonably good chemistry.

Was it a perfect movie? No. The screenwriters made Kimberly way too nasty at the beginning. They could have toned her down a bit. Also, her transition from mean to nice was way too abrupt. There should have been a clear epiphany when she realized how truly horrible she had been, such as when she was talking to the rude customer who was buying a skateboard. I also found it unbelievable the way she was able to slip into her normal jobs as salesperson and pizza restaurant waitress with hardly a hitch. She'd never had a real job before, so you would think that she would mess up a few times before getting it right, and that could have been played up for comedic effect. The rough patches in the story are minor, however, and it's such a nice, feel-good movie that you are able to overlook them.

I'm not sure if I liked the late-movie twist, where you find out that Kimberly hadn't really lost her money, but that it was all an elaborate ruse by her mom to help her learn to be nice again. Honestly, it would have been better if they truly had lost their money and were even forced to live in a low-rent neighborhood and interact with lower-class neighbors. The apartment they lived in was way too nice. If they really wanted her to be rich again, perhaps they could have had her find a way to make money on her own, through her own talents and intelligence.

On the whole, this was a charming movie with likable characters and a good character arc for the heroine. Even if it was a bit unrealistic at times, it left you with a big smile on your face at the end.

Some good humor
philbo_baggins15 May 2021
When it comes to these Hallmark movies one has to set the bar to what they are: Girl meets boy, fall for each other, have a misunderstanding, and love wins out in the end. Rinse & repeat. As much as I like action, sci-fi, and even raunchy comedy, I like Hallmark romances because they are a complete break from violence and coarse language. Reminiscent of 1950's RomComs. Good clean fun where you don't have to think too much about it while being entertained.

What makes some Hallmark movies better than others is how they get there, For me, likeability of the lead and inserting some humor in the story really boosts how much I enjoy the movie. Although not quite as good as Harvest Moon, this similar movie also has some good humor in it that makes it very enjoyable. As unlikeable as the lead is to start, after getting a taste of her own medicine while poor, realizes just how awful she was. She does become very likeable as a result. Her journey is laced with humor and there's several other likeable characters involved as well. I really did enjoy this movie as a result.

Autumn Moon?
toncincin13 October 2019
So ... came out about the same time as Autumn Moon. Same story - different location, different parent. Basically same story. Gotta say Jessy Schram is far more likable than Anna Hutchison. Hallmark really needs to embrace more story lines. At least this one has Constance Marie - a joy in most roles.

I Didn't Want it to End
tiffanytallent198123 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
For the most part, TV romance movies are formulaic. Girl meets boy, they fall for each other, misunderstandings arise, and everything eventually works out. Okay, okay! This one follows the same formula, but the acting is above average, the plot is creative, and chemistry is spot on! As I was watching this movie , I kept thinking how much I liked it.

Here are the basics. Spoiled Millionaire Kimberly suddenly finds out that she and her mother are broke. They have to sell their mansion and fancy cars, then move into a one bedroom apartment. The mom, Martha, goes to work in her lawyer's office and Kimberly finds a job in a sporting goods store. She's actually quite efficient in selling the merchandise and is determined to learn what she doesn't know. While working there, she becomes friends with her boss Michael when he invites her to his son's baseball game. About this time, Kimberly realizes she needs a second job and finds one at a pizza joint. One day Michael and his son come in to eat and their friendship starts to turn into something else. Since Michael can't date his employees, Kimberly quits the store and starts working full time at the pizza place. Weeks go by and Kimberly has completely changed. She went from being unconcerned about anyone else to being the nicest person. Then her mom Martha comes clean. The millions were never gone. Kimberly's mom just wanted her to realize that having money doesn't mean you are better. This is where the typical romance movie misunderstanding enters and why I took off a star. Lol Of course everything works out, but you'll have to watch to see the rest!

There is also a sweet soon to be romance happening in the background. It's between Martha and Kimberly's pizza joint boss, Chester. Both of these characters add quite a bit of substance to the movie!

STANDARD 'Hallmark type' PLOT COMPLETELY UNBELIEVABLE HERE!
cfgrimes31 January 2018
ME=SUFFERED THROUGH 30 MIN before I stopped, BUT LEAD GIRL WAY OVERDONE as NASTY, UNAPPEALING CHARACTER that there is NO WAY THAT PERSON could EVER BECOME 'HUMAN' as this 'Hallmark bad movie plot' ALWAYS SHOWS. They never gave her even small hints of 'kindness or caring' at the beginning.

Absolutley amazing movie
butterflymom-7421324 February 2019
I loved every minute of this movie. My favorite stars were here. The storyline appealed to me. I love movies where characters evolve and relationships are tested. The picture was amazingly clear. Story of a young woman who experiences a life changing event that tests her in every way. The new relationships she forms along the way become a blessing to her and her true character evolves. A romantic, fun, sweet movie. It ended well. Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!

Good movie good plot and good characters
rhonnie-4313919 July 2021
At first I thought it was going to be one of those no real plot movies but it surprised me. I ended up enjoying it. I loved the story and the actors.

I would have given it a 10 but the last scene was too predictable. I will still watch it again if it comes on.

Stick with it! Blossoms into a beautiful story.
SunnyDaise14 January 2023
At the start, I found the lead character unbearable and nearly gave up, but as she truly finds the best version of herself, this becomes a great movie. All kids should get a job in their mid-teens and really value their own and other people's time and money - it is just as important as school - otherwise they'll be immature for years, just like this girl. There's a good age range and mix of characters/situations so something for most of us to identify with. The story and the movie itself show that, despite the grief, 'bad' things are often something to be thankful for, and not always bad things after all.

Sweet film.
debbiemorry9 May 2022
This film was pretty predictable- spolied rude person needs a life lesson and ends up being kind and good. Although it doesn't sound very exciteable, it was actually really well acted and I really enjoyed the way all the characters interacted so well. In particular I thought the side plot romance of mum and pizza manager was thoughtful and well acted. Watching the main character throw herself in at work was lovely too and the pizza looked fab.

A pleasant way of passing the time.
david_barnett11 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While this is not another Citizen Kane or Third Man, it is one of those enjoyable run-of-the-mill romances where we know from the start that only nice things are going to happen, even if the heroine's life looks to be in freefall after the first few minutes.

We know that the spoilt rich girl is really a Nice Person when we see her having lunch with her Best Friend, who happens to be a sweet African American girl who has stuck with her despite her increasingly insufferable behaviour.

This Best Friend gets her a job in a sporting goods store, where she both falls on her feet and in love with her widower boss and his young son.

Obliged to take a second job, she is employed as a waitress by an Italian American pizza genius who is introduced to Mother.

Her snobby rich girl friends desert her when she loses her money and her Black friend sticks by her. I love films with Deeply Moral Messages.

To sum up, I really liked watching this and will very likely watch it again soon. It has a feelgood quality.
