5/10 when compared to all other television shows
7/10 if you only compare to other docu-series.
The stories are told very well, if you're into docu-series, then you'll likely enjoy it. There literally has never been a really well produced docu-series that incorporates acting and directing, so we know what to expect and we're ok with that. The only thing that is notably well done is effective and efficient storytelling. They have one hour to tell you a big story, and they accomplish that. The rest of this production is a crap shoot, but we expect that going in, so it's almost a non-issue.
With ratings being so irrationally high, it's odd that they didn't get a cash injection to at least bring it up to prime time production value so they could licence it to larger networks.
TIL: the stories are told very effectively, but every other aspect of this show is VERY reflective of on the lack of funding.
