Wow! Best episode of the series to date.

Ever since the show returned halfway through it's second season, Gotham has been consistently good. Last episode definitely ended on a big cliffhanger and I was very excited to see what direction the show would go in from there. I was not disappointed. In fact, it was better than I could have imagined from this show.

"Prisoners" focuses entirely on only two stories: Gordon in prison and Penguin with his new 'family.' There was no appearance from Bruce, Alfred, Selina, Butch, Tabitha, Leslie, Hugo Strange, and (from my memory) Captain Barnes. However, this was perfectly fine and really gave these two stories more time to develop.

This episode had a lot of memorable moments, both emotional and intense. We found out from Bullock that Leslie lost her baby and has moved 'down South' and hasn't been heard from since. Gordon meets a prisoner, just a kid, who takes a liking to him and this leads to some excellent scenes. The return of a character from Season 1 leads to Gordon breaking out of prison in a rather unexpected way. Penguin and his father (AKA Pee-Wee Herman) share a few brilliant and - believe it or not - heartwarming scenes. You can genuinely see that the Penguin has changed and left his old life behind. Unfortunately, after the end of this episode, I'm not sure how much longer that will last.

All-in-all, this was the best episode of the entire series to date and will certainly be hard to top, although the promo for next episode looks pretty great. This show has always been rather uneven and has never really lived up to it's full potential - until now. Hopefully they can keep it up.

However, I'm still waiting for Jerome to return.
