Old School Style Shooter Fun
occidentalover2 November 2020
Painkiller: Hell & Damnation re-releases and combines two older titles for clippy old school FPS fun. The most enjoyable part of this game for me was the weapon variety, which is very good.

The levels can be completed rather quickly, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the gameplay isn't rewarding or engaging enough to encourage me to play beyond a single playthrough. Unfortunately, most of the tarot cards (temporary powerups) are difficult to unlock on the first playthrough, so I didn't really get to enjoy those, save for the few I was able to obtain.

Also, it can be unclear how to progress in a couple spots without a walkthrough, but it doesn't hinder enjoying the game. Just a bit annoying for a game that that should have a clear path of progression.

There's barely a story, but it doesn't matter. I wasn't playing this for the story. And it's always fun to hear the vocal talents of Jon St. John (Duke Nukem).

Solid FPS if you're into older shooters.
