Firstly, I have to say this has got to be the best episode of the new season. Great way to start off the new year and rekindle that spark we didn't feel for a long time. I thought after the season 5 finale the show had lost its dynamic, and up until this week's episode I was right. Although personally I don't think this deserves more ratings than Always, Knockout, Cops and Robbers, and many other brilliant episodes.
This brought forward the heat between Castle and Beckett like the old days, but not as much. It was filled with non-stop drama, comedy, and mystery. It cracked me up several times, and I was smiling the whole time! However, I felt the lack of the part where Castle telling Beckett that he was no longer permitted to work with the NYPD. Not that I like seeing Beckett all sad and emotional, but they could have at least made something of it. This was just like what happened when they got engaged. Beckett said 'yes' and they just jumped two months into the future ripping us off of the opportunity of seeing what happened immediately after.
Bringing in Perlmutter as the M. E. was brilliant in a situation like this. His encounter with Castle was hilarious, along with Ryan trying to imitate Castle and Espo referring to him as "Baby Castle". That just made my day. Loved seeing Beckett worried about Castle, her smile in many Caskett moments, and Captain Gates furious. This episode really had it all.
Finally, this episode was brilliantly composed. It reminded us how good this show used to be, although I seriously miss the old drama and Castle and Beckett's dynamic they had before season 5. I really do. Hope they make more episodes like this one with Castle, P. I. and cute Caskett moments.
