Season 4 - Thanks Netflix
dwvildibill14 October 2015
I was very glad the series was picked up by Netflix after A&E dumped. Our whole family likes the LONGMIRE show and it was "appointment TV" when it was on A&E. Needless to say, when they cancelled the show there were stories that needed wrapping up. I believe Netflix made a wise choice in picking it up. The quality of the shows have been excellent.

Good show -- good, complex characters (good and bad) and enjoy learning a little bit about the American Indian culture. Scenery tells the story as much as the people in the show. Very intriguing cliff-hanger ending and it just has be to resolved!

Please, please - don't stop now - Give us Season 5! #Longmirelives

Writers are people too ...

And they have foibles.

First however and for the record (because I believe the IMDb database, being digital, will outlive both the writer and the readers of this review) I LOVE this series. It is transportative, instead of taking you to another planet like Syfy, it takes you to Absaroka County where an Australian-born sheriff portraying a John-Wayne-style lawman tries to make everything right and almost never succeeds. It has some of the best acting and writing in the biz. Love it.

Now for the foibles. Last year (the season that almost marked the end of the series, before Netflix rescued it) even in the face of certain death, the writing team loaded the deck with half-dozen major unresolved issues.

Like the characters they write about in their scripts, these guys have major cojones. And no fear whatsoever.

This year, perhaps feeling more secure under new management, they did not even try to restrain themselves. There are about 15 plot arcs floating around here in the season finale and once again we are going to have to wait for next year to see how they play out.

I'm marking it down on my 2016 calendar. So should you.

Walt Is Under a Pile of Grief
Hitchcoc26 December 2018
In this episode Gab takes center stage, not as a sophisticated character, but the key to all kinds of stuff. First of all, Walt has to fire his deputy because a guy who didn't get the job of deputy set things up. A law suit is in the offing. Then we have the oil guy whose workers were rapists. Henry is getting deeper and deeper. Walt is facing a couple of law suits. He is also continuing his relationship with the psychologist, and that leading to complications with Vic.

So far from the books
clsiewert27 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The multiple plot lines have gotten ridiculous. Walt responding to an incident on the Rez (with Henry) and then telling the oil people "I can't do anything because it isn't my jurisdiction." Refusing to listen to Travis' side of the story (which could have given him heads' up) and was a bull turnaround after his hiring. Badgering Cady about seeing Gab. Vic having a temper tantrum about Walt not knowing about her personal life. An egregious lawsuit. None of this is from the book--not that it needs to be about the book, but what has happened is that instead of being about solving a case each episode, it's about personal drama between people in a highly dysfunctional department--kind of the opposite of the books. I did like Henry's side story, and I liked the Medicine Woman's interaction with Gab.

Seriously downhill since late Season 3
jennachaplinca11 September 2018
As a previous reviewer said in regard to the episode with the survivalist in Season 3 this show appears to have been 'juiced up' to appeal to a wider audience. Unfortunately the writers seem to think that this audience has a short attention span, requires regular violence, and is incapable of appreciating any sbtlety (as seen in the earlier seasons). Basically it's just been packed with jolts and all the characters are now required to show strong emotions all the time. No more of this for me, thank you very much.
