A web soap in the style of the prime-time '80s soaps
blanche-213 September 2015
I'm not sure about the plans for Winterthorne - I was led to believe it was a web soap opera, but it looks like a four-part miniseries, so I'm not sure.

The cast combines old-timers from the '80s soap days and current or recent soap stars: Martha Madison, John-Paul Lavoisier, Linda Gray, Gordon Thomson, Kirsten Storms, Kathleen Gati, and Michael Caruso, the series writer and producer.

The series concerns the Winterthorne family, who own and operate a massive candy company. But it goes far deeper than that - there is a special ingredient originally found in the forest that goes into the candy, an ingredient that has great powers. Also, it's a family where the women dominate.

Gordon Thomson from Dynasty and Kathleen Gati from countless films, TV, and currently on General Hospital, really come off the best. The rest of the acting is a little uneven. Kirsten Storms has yet to appear but she'll be very good. Madison and Lavoisier had excellent moments.

Linda Gray was in it briefly, and there's no doubt that the woman has an aging portrait in her closet. She looks fabulous. She did an effective job as Madison's mother.

The denouement hasn't happened yet so it will be interesting to see what transpires. The production values are on a par with a network series - it made me nostalgic for the Falcon Crest, Dynasty, Dallas days.
