Dean Martin Celebrity Roast: Joe Garagiola (1976)

Dean Martin starts off talking about how this wasn't your normal episode of the series because there were a lot of baseball players there to honor Joe Garagiola. He was a baseball catcher so I guess Martin wanted to warn people that this wasn't going to be the non-stop comedians and professionals. Luis Tiant, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mayes, Charles Finley, Yogi Berra and Hank Aaron are among the baseball players here. The professionals include Jack Carter, Orson Welles, Shirley Jones, Norm Crosby, Nipsey Russell, Red Buttons and Gabe Kaplan are among the roasters and I must say that Martin's introduction really wasn't needed because this was a hilarious episode. I mean, there were some really hilarious moments including Kaplan who lays out a terrific bit. Mantle also handles the comedy quite well adn Tiant delivers a good moment with Martin. I also thought it was rather fun just to watch Garagiola react to the jokes as he appears to be really having a blast and into everything being said.
