According to producer Erwin Stoff the diplomatic compound as well as the CIA annex were built using the actual plans. Stoff: "...what we did is we had actual plans and satellite images of the original structures, and we had the guys. So we (...) built these, we replicated both the annex and the diplomatic mission exactly to the inch..." [2016]
The original cut of the film was 4 hours long.
Toby Stephens was a good friend of the real-life Jack Silva.
In a January 18, 2016 interview on the Mark Levin radio program, Mark Geist said he sneaked in during filming and took the place of the actor Max Martini portraying him. Michael Bay didn't notice until Mark looked at the camera.
Michael Bay wanted to shoot on film. Director of Photography Dion Beebe wanted to shoot digitally. Bay ultimately accepted digital filming because of the number of night scenes and the tight production schedule.

John Krasinski, David Denman, and David Costabile all starred in The Office (2005). Krasinski played Jim Halpert, Denman played Roy (who competed with Halpert for the affections of Jenna Fischer's character), and David Costabile appeared in The Office: The Banker (2010).
During the morning prayer scene, an aerial shot of a mosque tower is shown. This is the exact same shot used in Blackhawk Down when they were showing helicopters flying around the city of Mogadishu blaring that they will not leave Mike Durant behind.
