Camp counsellor indie horror
Leofwine_draca11 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
BEE STING is a really cheesy indie comedy horror about teens working as camp counsellors in the woods (gee, where have we heard that before?) who encounter the usual psycho redneck types with murder in mind and who must fight back against their murderous ways. With nothing in the way of FX and no script, this is 47 minutes of dumb humour and non-acting and little else. It says something that even at 47 minutes the material feels stretched to breaking point.

Simply Terrible

I only made it through the first 20 minutes. It was agonizing to watch. I really enjoy low budget movies and don't mind bad sets, audio, even mediocre acting. But this movie had nothing going for it.

The best thing I could say was the writing was okay, with one or two funny one liners. The rest of it was terrible. The acting was bad, even for a zero-budget movie. I'm used to seeing pretty faces with no talent, but it seemed as if they just picked random people off the streets. The audio was poor, as were the sets. The makeup looked like it was done by my 8 year old daughter. I hate to write such a negative review, but I can't figure where all the high rating for this title are coming from (it has a 7.7 as I write this).

Don't waste you time. There's no hidden gem here.

Much Better Than the Last Review I Read Suggested

Look, this is a low budget campy bloody comedy film adaptation of a graphic novel. So it's not An American Werewolf in London, and its not The Evil Dead. There isn't even a single scare in it. But there's not SUPPOSED to be.

Instead you get some decent CGI effects, some blood, some funny dialog, and a goofy story that holds together. The acting is decent, running between rather good for low-budget and a bit too stiff (the twin sisters are super cute but haven't completely given in to the campy aspect of the movie...but they're still tolerable).

The film moves along at a decent clip, it never gets stuck in the mud or becomes boring, and it feels a bit shorter than it is which is always a good sign. Plus those are signs of better direction and better screen writing; this obviously went through the necessary rewrites, and on the editing table move good decisions were made.

All in all it was a good watch and worth the time, and I expect to see more from this group in the future.
