Bryan Cranston’s ‘Sneaky Pete’ Renewed for Season 2 by Amazon

5 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Giovanni Ribisi’s “Pete” will sneak on for at least another season: Amazon has renewed “Sneaky Pete.”

The renewal comes less than a week after the full first season debuted on Amazon’s Prime streaming service. Amazon claims “Sneaky Pete” had the second-biggest premiere day streaming audience of its originals thus far. (“The Man in the High Castle” holds the record.)

Bryan Cranston and Graham Yost have done a masterful job of steering the cast to fantastic performances,” said Joe Lewis, Amazon Studios’ head of comedy and drama. “Both the critical response and our customers’ engagement with the series are key factors in our enthusiasm to bring our audience a second season of ‘Sneaky Pete.’”

The series follows con-man Marius (Ribisi) as he takes on the identity of Pete, a fellow prisoner (Ethan Embry) who wowed Marius with tales of his idyllic childhood. However, the family, headed up by Margo Martindale’s Audrey, is »

Legion Review: An Exhilarating Delight, Even if You Don't Like Comic Books

17 January 2017 5:08 PM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

I know what you’re thinking: Another comic-book show? From The CW’s crowded superhero stable to Netflix’s Daredevil/Jessica Jones/Luke Cage trio, it seems like every other TV drama these days springs from the panels of a comic book. And yet, thankfully, there’s still room for a fresh voice in there, because FX’s Legion is not just “another comic-book show.” Visually inventive and emotionally astute, it bursts out of the gate with the most exhilarating TV pilot I’ve seen since Mr. Robot.

The bulk of the credit for Legion — debuting Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 10/9c — goes to creator Noah Hawley, »

The Sinner: USA Picks Up Anthology Series Starring Jessica Biel

17 January 2017 1:25 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

USA Network has a slate of new pilots they're currently sorting through, and they've found a winner.

The Sinner, produced by and starring Jessica Biel, has been picked up to series. Bill Pullman will co-star in the series alongside Biel.

This will mark Biel's first series regular role since she played Mary Camden on 7th Heaven from 1996-2006. She has since been focusing on movies other than a small voice role on Family Guy.

Pullman's last series regular role was a comedy as the President of the United States on 1600 Penn during the 2012-13 television series.

Costarring Jenna Elfman and Josh Gad, that series only lasted 13 episodes.

Two other pilots, Damnation and The Tap, have been completed are awaiting their fate.

All three of the completed projects come from Universal Cable Productions, as does a fourth still in the casting phase.

That pilot, titled Unsolved, will tackle the murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. »

Sundance 2017: 10 Must-See Shorts At This Year’s Festival

10 January 2017 9:00 AM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

If you’re wondering where the next Damien Chazelle will come from, look no further than the 2017 Sundance Film Festival short film lineup.

Sundance has a long history of discovering the next generation of acclaimed filmmakers by first championing their short films. Chazelle made his first big splash by winning the 2013 Grand Jury Prize for “Whiplash” (the short). Last year, Jim Cummings won that prize for “Thunder Road,” and he’s back this year with a new short. Also generating a lot of pre-festival buzz is Kristen Stewart, making her writing/directing debut with the short “Come Swim.”

Before the Sundance Film Festival commences on January 19, 2017, here’s a briefing on Cummings’ “The Robbery,” Stewart’s “Come Swim” and eight other buzzworthy shorts (two of which are viewable online).

IndieWire reached out to the filmmakers to ask about their inspiration, production challenges and future projects. Check out our list below, »
