Things are getting tense
gplusr4 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Not the most brilliant episode on the show, but it was nice to see it going from Ava and Boyd being drunk to that table meeting with Markham.

The only thing that's bothering me is Raylan not even being close to play the central character of the show, I mean, since Season 4 it's like all the good moments are going to Boyd, I know Walton Goggins is a very talented actor and maybe he has more range than Olyphant, but the writers need to know this is Raylan's show, it's boring to see him just going after some punks and having a little conversation with Ava.

Anyway, things are building up nicely for what's about to be a very explosive season, it's sad to see this show not being as famous as Sons of Anarchy got, when quite frankly is way superior than anything Kurt Sutter has put on the table for the last 3 years.

I have a feeling that Ava's days are counted, I'm just not sure if she's getting it from Boyd or from Ty Walker, because if Walker is anything like Francis Wolcott from Deadwood, we can sure see what's coming.

Another great character development episode, just not as good as the first two.

MVP's:

Ava Crowder (Joelle Carter).

Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins).

Avery Markham (Sam Elliott).

Leaving Harlan alive just became that much harder
Mr-Fusion7 July 2017
One of the best episodes in recent memory (with skilled direction by Peter Weller), 'Noblesse Oblige' is Harlan's major criminal players steadily moving on each other and into place. Massively entertaining puzzle pieces. Sam Elliott's an easy fit as a smooth-talking hood, and surprisingly terrifying sans mustache. And Joelle Carter see her share of the spotlight as Ava is increasingly set between a rock and a Marshal.

It's suitably dramatic, given all the weight that's ready o come down on some of these characters but also seems to double down on the appealing Western dialogue, which makes it a lot of fun.

"Why not,, it worked for Gary Cooper?" (dialog, Olyphant)
A_Different_Drummer16 February 2015
THEY'RE BAAACK! Previous reviews by this writer were a tad harsh, blaming the JUSTIFIED team for losing focus last season with all kinds of goings-on that not only were not fun, but were in fact annoying to watch.

The good news is that the team is back.

A joy to see Sam Elliot in full fettle.

And we are starting to see some of the nuances we expect from the younger Yost, a man who was raised with a keen appreciation of the art of film-making.

By that remark, I am referring not only to the return to the small screen of Elliot and Mary Steenburgen -- both of whom forgot more about acting than many young stars of today actually know -- but also little digs like the line in the header, where the dialog for Olyphant acknowledges how similar he is in looks and style of the immortal Gary Cooper.

Also fun to see Joelle Carter getting the screen time she deserves especially since last season had her hidden away under lock and key.

Literally.
