"The Nuclear Man" felt exactly like what a comic book episode should feel. An intriguing storyline, some light hearted and cheesy moments, and some great development for the heroes and supporting characters.

The episode kicks off with Barry now getting on with Linda Park. Their chemistry seem to have blossomed now after this episode. Linda had quite the personality and gave way for some cheesy and awkward scenes with her and Barry which in my opinion, we're well done and reminded a whole lot of how Peter Parker behaves. Although of course, Iris was still there to butt-in and we're all still not sure whether the forced relationship between her and Barry is still alive or dead, so please make it clear already. The episode also explores the intriguing reopening of the case of Nora Allen's murder. Detective West and Cisco certainly makes a great pact and it was quite thrilling to see them uncover and reveal the secrets regarding the case. The Firestorm storyline also continues here which gives way to more character development on Caitlin's character. The sort-of misunderstood antagonist had somewhat of a interesting back story regarding the incident that happened before in Star Labs. The visuals and action still remain very excellent and consistent even at the 13th episode. The ending however, was somewhat fulfilling and it will be continued in the next episode.

Overall, fun and entertaining. It's like you're reading a comic book on your TV screen. +Barry Allen and Linda Park chemistry, -Iris butting in, -Show isn't sure whether Iris and Barry is still a thing, +Detective West and Cisco investigation, +Firestorm storyline, +Consistent Visuals and Action.

Verdict: 8.9/10

Tone goes nuclear
Fluke_Skywalker11 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A bit of a clash of tones as Barry's amusing romantic travails come up against a startling revelation about the murder of his Mom. Oh, and Caitlin's fiancé goes nuclear.

Grant Gustin really gets to shine here as Barry struggles to balance his new love interest, Linda Park (played with a likable sass by Malese Jow) and his other job as Central City's resident hero. It gets a tad rom-com at times, but Gustin shows an excellent knack for physical comedy that I hope they continue to showcase. On the flip side, Joe and Cisco team up to investigate the murder of Barry's Mom and Joe's suspicion that Dr. Wells is involved. The revelation here is not what either of them expected. The freak of the week is a familiar one in Firestorm, who we learn is a fusion of Caitlin's fiancé Ronnie and a Dr. Stein. Robbie Amell does an excellent job as the Ronnie/Stein hybrid and his fate has future implications thanks to a coda with General Eiling (the great Clancy Brown).

At times the clashing tones/story lines diminish each other's effectiveness, but overall "Nuclear Man" is a solid episode.

Flame On

Tonight, we finally got an in depth look into the Firestorm character. I'm not too familiar with his comic book counterpart, but I do know the idea of two separate humans combining into one is pretty fascinating. With that being said, the episode fell a little short in that department, but was definitely increasingly interesting in Barry's mother's case.

Detective West and Cisco decided to take on new evidence at Barry's old house, now occupied by who we should presume to be Joe's new love interest. I'm not sure how I feel about a mirror that takes pictures, but when you have a man that can run faster than a speeding bullet, I guess all sense of what can be real is lost. It was revealed that Barry's older self was indeed at the crime scene that night years ago. It doesn't come as a shock as it seems the writers are going the 'Flashpoint' route with the murder. Will this eliminate the detectives gripe on Dr. Wells? Hopefully not, it only took Oliver Queen 5 minutes to realize something was up with that guy, so I would think a detective can follow his gut.

Joe wasn't the only one getting a new love interest, as Barry is now dating Linda. Something still seems a little sketchy with her but it's nice to see Barry going after somebody other than Iris. Speaking of her, she has become more and more unlikable. Going out of her way to try and break Barry and his girlfriend up is not something you do to your best friend. If you actually have feelings for him, then talk to him about it. Where's Eddie by the way? Something that was nice to see was Wells doing something for his crew. I think it's clear he does have some sort of affection for all of them if he's willing to sacrifice his plan for the well being of Caitlin.

So Barry from the future huh? As much as I thought Firestorm looked cool, that storyline has yet to grab my attention. It was just weird watching him try and interact with people as Stein. I did like how his back-story was explained and at least made sense this time.

+Wells' unselfish action

+Barry from the future

+Effects

-Awkward Firestorm interactions

-Iris

amazing.

OH MY GOD. This episode was beautiful. we get firestorm's back story and insight into how his powers work. It was also awesome to see Cisco and Joe working together to find out who killed Nora. Did anyone else think of Flashpoint when they found out an adult Barry was there? It would be really awesome to see a time travel-alternate dimension story line to unfold. The scenes with Barry and Linda were great. It's awesome to see that being a superhero doesn't mean you can't get some action every now and then. We also got some more development on Harrison Well's character. He had the option to kill a key member in the Justice League but he decided not to. It makes me wonder even more what is actual goal is. He's not a complete villain, but he's not a hero either. Probably my forth favorite episode so far, right behind The Man in the Yellow Suit, Flash vs Arrow, and Going Rouge.

The Nuclear Man
SpideyVerse2320 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the most balanced episode of The Flash.

Barry starts dating Linda Park, sports reporter at CCPN, which starts off well but quickly goes sideways. I didn't like how Iris involved herself between them, after she chose Eddie instead of him. But it was a fun plot even though it took a backseat to the main plot of the episode.

Firestorm ends up killing a man, so Team Flash decides its time to bring him in and decide what to do with him. We get a lot of great moments in this plot and a lot of twists, with truly great visual effects in this episode.

Cisco and Joe continue investigating Barry's mother's death and some truly unexpected and game-changing developments take place.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: The Nuclear Man
lbramson10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The first part of the Firestorm arc features Team Flash trying to uncover the mystery behind the Firestorm matrix and save Martin Stein and Ronnie Raymond from exploding. This episode is amazing due to the fact that it's fan service! Since about Episode 7, we've been setting up Ronnie Raymond and Firestorm. We finally get to see the character in all of his fiery glory! And it's amazing, absolutely amazing. This was, to me, the episode that started the hot streak of Season 1! After this pretty much every episode was a 9/10 or a 10/10, not 8s and below! It's fascinating, fan service, incredible awesomeness and I recommend you watch this 9.5/10 episode!
