Everyone wants something. Paris is seeking Juliet's hand in marriage, and the rivalry for dominance between the butcher families Montague and Capulet is violently disturbing the peace of Verona. Romeo, a Montague, seems more interested in Rosaline and her beauty. Benvolio challenges Romeo that there are more fish in the sea, which he can prove at Capulet's party.

Love is powerful, but passion can often get in the way of reason. Tybalt, feeling insulted by Romeo, wants to defend her honor. Romeo does not want to fight, and Mercutio, unaware that Tybalt is now Romeo's kinsman, is furious at Romeo's refusal to fight. Knives and cleavers cut through the air as scores are settled at great costs.
