The title, "SNAFU," is a military acronym dating to World War II that stands for "Situation Normal, All Fouled Up"; it refers to being in a bad situation and this being the usual state of affairs. There is another version with a different "F" word.
Doctor Ivchenko, whose real name is revealed to be Fennhoff, is seen reading Christopher Marlowe's "The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus." This is a reference to the comic book version of Johann Fennhoff, who also uses the name "Doctor Faustus." However, the comic book Fennhoff was Austrian while Agent Carter's version is Russian.
