When the Wind Blows
hellraiser74 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not read this unless you've seen the episode.

It's always the last thing we ever want to happen, we know somewhere along the line it will happen but we never think it will be today. This to me is one of the saddest and gut wrenching episodes I've ever seen, it literally made me cry.

This episode I'll admit isn't perfect, I honestly felt that laugh track at the beginning of the episode was really annoying and became a bit much. I also didn't like this little tidbit we discover about both Jenny and Ted on both of them use to date, that was completely out of the blue and felt really tacked on, it served no purpose for the story.

But down to business, the episode starts off with Ki back at her parents home in the aftermath of the election and she really doesn't want to deal with it. The start of the episode is somewhat cheerful, having that old family sitcom vibe, in a way this is sort of metaphor for Ki and even the rest of the group not wanting to deal with the reality of their dilemmas which have recently taken a toll on them.

But reality comes crashing back down on all of them as Brian then gets a call and it's of course the worst news ever, Fready Wong, Teddy's dad has died. One a side note this news didn't really surprise me because part of the beginning of the episode was an homage to the film "Laurance of Arabia" and if you remember what happened at the very beginning of that film you pretty much saw it coming.

It was really what happened after the call that was really gut wrenching and really gave a sense of reality, I know I've been there. Ted is coming back into the room you just saw the looks of sadness from Ki, Jenny, and Brian and the silence they give. They didn't have to say anything and Ted easily sees from their eyes something is terribly wrong. And he gets the news and well I have no words for his reaction.

What really makes this episode for me stand out is that though the tragedy each of the characters are dealing with the dilemmas they've been burdened with. In a way the tragedy was a lesson showing that dealing and resolve their dilemmas sooner is better than later, because we don't have all the time in the world. With Ki I really like that she is forgiving Ted but also there is one moment which was touching and significant as she then finally admits to her parents why she left the school and her parents are understanding.

Another is with Brian and Jenny, despite not nearly enough scenes with the two interacting which is another weak point of the episode. You can see both didn't want to break up that both still have strong feelings for another as we see a scene when both of them passionately make out. I'm hope both of them will stay together I want them too, it would be a little too sad if they didn't and as I said before love for my significant other always comes first that's my policy.

But of course the big one is with Teddy as he is not just dealing with the reality of the death of this father but also the reality of his relationship with his father as well as the dark path he was currently walking throughout the season. One scene was really gut wrenching and really made me mad at Fready which was the DVD will. I won't say too much but it really displayed the epitome of how much of a blow hole he truly was, he doesn't give his son or anyone really anything. It's obvious when Fready made it he purposely half assed it, probably thinking nothing is ever going to happen to him, how wrong he was.

This really helps give some depth into Teddy's life which was really sad and wrong. The last minutes really hit hard as we see Teddy is playing a guitar rhythm video game and we see he's actually gotten good, may'be not on the same level as his father but all the same he did it. But it was what happened after he beat the level it was just to hear his father once more, which is understandable like with all of us who lost someone longing to hear the voice of that person one last time.

Teddy afterward then pours his heart out, admitting to how much of a jerk he's been the past weeks. We can see the group forgives him and I forgive him to, he's a good guy he just got lost out there for a while, it's happened to all of us. But also some of the reality of his relationship with his dad, and you see Teddy doesn't understand and feel a bit ashamed not knowing why he is sad despite how much his dad mistreated him. Brian who looks on the verge of tears then says something deep because he's your father, the real shame is that he didn't love Ted as much as Ted loved him. And of course Ted breaks down and cries which was the same time I did.

Life just like the wind is a fleeting thing, so is our time with the people we love.

A roller coaster of feels
seouleaterevans20 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this episode I genuinely thought this would be a nice spoof on sit-coms with a light hearted twist. That is not what I got after leaving. While I do feel some parts do hold this episode back I still highly enjoyed this episode. During the start I was enjoying the quick response dialogue and acting that made me laugh.

One thing that bothered me was the whiplash with the tone of the episode, one second Ki is asking Brian to kiss and 10 seconds later Jenny drops the bomb on Ted's dad being dead.

One amazing scene that sticked with me was the ending. Ted is on his knees crying and all everyone could do is just let him grieve as they try to comfort him, knowing that nothing they could do would help him at that moment. Then the cut to credits with no music, no sound, just the silent roll of the text.

It really gives you a feeling, a bit manipulative but still makes you feel a sadness in your heart.

Another great scene is when Ted is watching his father's will. You can see how little he cared about Ted and it is gut wrenching horrible as you slowly see Ted's shell break and his sadness slowly come out.

All in all this is a trip of feels, starting as a light hearted comedy and whipping you towards a gloomy and real slap to the face.

Who Ordered the Melodrama?
willz18712 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I just started recommending this show to people, especially gamers. Hope they don't judge this series from this sad sack episode. Or my name will be mud. I watched this show for fun, for the action and quirkiness. Any more of this melodramatic boo-hoo garbage and I'm done - even though I think I read this is the last season anyways. Maybe not.

Even as I watch the latest episode, the down beat drag from 'High School Home School' is weighing it down, keeping me from enjoying it, fearing that it may be another downer episode.

This show went from comedy/action to tweener soap opera. Too bad cuz it was hilarious while it lasted. This was the show that "jumped the shark"
