about death
Kirpianuscus9 January 2022
Each scene of film reminds the pact made at the beginning of film. Henry Alberto has the science to propose to you to ignore that. Two buddies , a full of terribilist facts, visits and talks, stealing and food day. And the return, so precise, to beginning. Easy to consider it a film about nothing, an experimental one, a chain of improvisation or just waste of 80 minutes of your day. You are not wrong, in essence but the final scenes are very useful to say the fair verdict about Hara Kiri. Because, being a film about death, it represents an almost cold exploration of contemporary youth, friendship, deep loneliness, dramatic decisions and real meaning of love. So, in essence, it is only a pure gem. Not original but poetic. Not impressive but, scene by scene, true.

Perfect!

Two guys lost in this world make a pact to end their lives together. Neither of these skateboard dudes has much of a future, their daily lives are directionless and purposeless. Better to find another life through death.

Some reviews have stated these two guys, Beto and August, are lovers. I think not! This story is all about loyalty, allegiance, and commitment. At the start of this movie you hear Beto and August making a pact of ending their lives together. So these two spend their day in self indulgence, visiting friends and family, and just having fun and some of this fun comes at the expense of others. You find out pretty fast why August is so lost in life. For Beto it's more complex.

Director/writer: Henry Alberto has created a near perfect film! Hara Kiri offers much to think about and contemplate about how some face life and their often irrational acts. August and Beto are not uneducated bums, this is proved with the scene on the rocks writing quotes with sharpie pens! We are left to never know exactly why these two have chosen to end their lives. The near ending of the story is smartly done because you just aren't sure what is about to happen with Beto.

This is a first class indie!

Warning: Spoilers
Now that I'm retired, I now have the time to indulge my in gay oriented films, both short and long. In my limited estimation, this short film held my attention mostly by the dialog and cinematography. The acting was phenomenal. It's now 11:33pm, way past my bedtime, and this movie is still on my mind. What I don't understand is how August died; one moment he was alive, eyes open in the car with Beto driving; and then minutes later August is dead. HOW? I never saw him stab himself. Beto loved his friend, and did not want to be in this world without him. All in all, I would watch this short film again.
