Great Episode!
Jdmaxgaming4 December 2014
The Flash redeems itself from last weeks episode. This weeks episode is really good, not better than episode 1 or 4 but definitely good. I love the new villain Tony. The conflict is probably the best we had so far, the final scene is also incredible! The background to Tony's story about him being a bully to Barry is genius and really stands up to bully's globally! Flash learns how strong he really is on this episode which made extremely enjoyable to watch. Villain is superb! Iris chasing after "The streak" is now starting to annoy me as well as there love triangle as I said last week. I liked Iris at some point, but she's beginning to look like some mindless idiot looking for a red streak. I don't like her as much as I did before which makes me sad. I might be the only one to say this but I really ship Barry and Caitlin. Just saying. Overall, fantastic episode. Not the best, but definitely not the worst! Here's to another great episode! - Jdmax

Simplistic, yet delivers at certain points.

Warning: Spoilers
*Minor Spoilers*

"The Flash is Born" is an episode which develops the characters much further especially Barry. The show is known for using clever tactics such as using "flash"backs to furthermore advance the narrative and develop the characters in such a fast paced show.

The episode kicks off with The Flash heading face to face with a familiar face who seems to have been formed into a meta-human just like him. It turns out coincidentally, the man whom Barry faced is his childhood bully. Yet again we are treated with flashbacks in which I have to say, works well in the series. A troubled Barry then has to face him with mixed emotions which is caused by his on and off relationship by Iris. It's a simplistic plot, yet it delivers well enough to keep you engaged in your seat. The visuals as usual, were outstanding. Whenever the Flash is at his utmost speed, or they show us a slow motion scene, it is downright cool to see. The action sequences were thrilling, but with some minor inconsistencies with the Flash's abilities that won't be a problem unless they continue throughout the series. However with the pros proving to be effective, the flaws start to arise yet again. Iris remains to be this underdeveloped and sometimes just downright unlikeable character. She's treated as a damsel in distress in the episode and if this continues in more and more episodes, I might even stop watching because it's already going to be predictable on what's going to happen next. The antagonist did not have that "wow" factor. At the start of the episode, he appears to be stronger than the Flash then the episode progresses and they learn stuff about him and they defeat him. This is an ongoing formula in the show that will sooner or later become ineffective and become repetitive.

Overall, light-hearted, entertaining, but the flaws may or will drag the show down. +Clever use of flashbacks in order to develop characters, +Simplistic narrative but delivered well, +Action and visuals remain outstanding, +Dr. Wells mystery and involvement in Barry's Mom's death, -Iris, -The Antagonist and possibly future antagonists if not improved on, -The formula for each episode might sooner or later become ineffective.

Verdict: 7.7/10

Warning: Spoilers
Another freak of the week villain, but this time with a personal twist as Barry's childhood bully shows up as a man of steel. Literally. The main thrust of the episode works really well, with an arc that sees Barry defeated not once, but twice and then have to dig down deep and find the courage to defeat his tormentor. On the margins we get a little bonding between Barry and Eddie, Iris and The Flash (finally coined at the end of the episode) hit most of the same beats as the previous episode, but it works, and Joe digs a little too deep for Dr. Wells' comfort.

At this point all the pistons are firing. The drama, the romance, the mystery and the action all work as parts of the larger machine.

Barry Stands Up to his Bully!
tylerlarson-6951529 February 2024
This was a really good episode that proves why Barry Allen wants to be a hero. Barry wants to protect innocent people from bullies that want to hurt them because poor Barry was bullied as a kid by Tony Woodward who grows up becomes this episode's main villain, Girder. Tony's new powers of super-strength and the ability to his skin into organic steel armor makes him a tuff and intimidating villain for The Flash because he defeats the hero twice and taunts him. Despite Tony's evil intimidation, Barry is brave and never gives up and in the end Flash manages to stop Girder and save Iris.

This episodes gives a great message to never give up and always be brave and never let anyone bring you down. Every hero has had a bully when they were young like Peter Parker (Spider-Man) was bullied by Flash Thompson and Scott Summers (Cyclops) was picked on by Duncan Matthews.

Supersonic Punch Baby

Warning: Spoilers
Very great episode, this one was the best one yet, Tony is a great villain, I like a lot his way of using his powers and talking. It was really intense, that's why it's good. Even though Barry and Joe did not have a good opinion about her blog about flash, I actually like her meetings with him and her writing everything about him there. Like always, the end of the episode boosted it a lot, I love how he hit the supersonic punch on Tony and felt great for defeating his school bully who terrorized him when he was a kid, I loved the fact that at the end Barry even showed him that he is the flash, this episode was Exactly what I was looking for.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Flash Is Born

Warning: Spoilers
The Flash tackles a relateable problem when Barry's middle school bully kidnaps Iris after becoming a metahuman. To joins the episodes where Barry learns a new power, here he learns how to "Super Sonic Punch, baby! Woooo!" I've always loved this episode because of the unforgettable flashbacks about Barry learning how to fight for himself. "The Flash Is Born" tackles a simple issue that we have all had to face in our life and it remains timeless for that reason. How could anyone forget that this was when Barry officially became the Flash instead of the Streak. What a roller coaster of straight awesome! Overall a 9/10.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving
ThomasDrufke18 November 2014
The Flash is a great show. And arguably a better start than what Arrow had a few years back. But every great show has a misfire. The Flash Is Born was the weakest episode of the series to date, saved by the final scene.

It was basically another filler episode to get us closer to the Flash vs Arrow episode in a few weeks. Filler episodes are fine but in order to still capture my attention you have to add to the overall story with elements that you wont necessarily need later on. The villain was absolutely dreadful this week. 'Girder' had cool powers sure, but the dialogue and delivery of the this character was pitiful. The writers have actually done a great job so far 6 episodes in capturing a completely different tone than Arrow, while still giving us an awesome superhero show. It felt like an Agents of Shield villain to be honest.

But the episode had it's great moments, led by Detective West and Harrison Wells' meetings. At this point, we know Wells is a villain but who is he? Is it possible he is Eobard Thawne from the future AKA Reverse Flash? Just an idea one of my friends proposed to me but who knows. It was just about the only interesting part of this episode. I even thought the Iris-Barry scenes were pretty cheesy and weak. And why is Thawne 'training' Barry? Just felt completely out of place. But I did think the flashbacks were a fun little addition to this week. So in a week that didn't have much going on, we did get an introduction into who Reverse Flash may be, and also got a quick sneak peak to the Arrow-Flash episode in two weeks.

+Detective West investigates Wells

+Flashback scenes

+Wells may be Reverse Flash?

-Terrible villain

-Already tired of Iris going after 'The Streak'

-Really bad dialogue all around

Tacky....

Two things: with the knowledge that he can't match Tony, he still tries, instead of going at it the ways he knows work better.

Also, why is iris wearing MOM JEANS?
