A nice little movie

Act of Faith (2014) is a movie that I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline follows a small black owned diner where the employees are battling their own inner demons and want more money and opportunity; however, when the restaurant is threatened to be shutdown they band together to try and find a way to help the shop stay open while considering their possible next steps in life.

This movie is directed by Dan Garcia (Speed Demons) and stars John Amos (Coming to America), Cassi Davis (Madea's Family Reunion), Tamala Jones (Booty Call), Paula Jai Parker (Hustle & Flow) and Joe Torry (Poetic Justice).

This cast is very impressive and well put together; unfortunately, despite having such a good cast the acting is a bit uneven. The conversations seem authentic at times and forced others. Amos is outstanding and I loved his character, guidance and perspectives. The subplots are well established for each character and watching them battle those challenges are entertaining. The background music is a bit cliche and funny some times and the comedic content is hit or miss. I did love the ending and felt like this was a nice little movie when the closing credits rolled.

Overall, this is a warm movie that's not outstanding but worth watching once. I would score this a 6/10.
