Racing to Recovery Warning: Spoilers
This was a definitive step forward from season five of the Total Drama franchise, certainly. Many of the new characters (and even a couple of the old) showed a surprising amount of depth; most notably Team Daters. Ryan in particular showed an unprecedented amount of development, and by the time the team was eliminated, I was actually a little sad to see them go. I also think that Team Sisters and Team Surfers were very well done, with many funny scenes and engaging story lines intertwining them with several other teams. The Goths were very fun to watch as well, along with the Father & Son team and the Rockers, once the latter's characters were fleshed out a bit.

This show was not without its flaws, though. The Tennis Rivals and Fashion Bloggers both, in my opinion, had much more to offer, and were eliminated too soon. The Step Brothers, on the other hand, offered virtually nothing in terms of plot advancement, and could have easily been eliminated several episodes before they actually were. By the same token, I feel as though the use of Leonard as a reoccurring character was a waste of a slot based on how he was used. With the amount of characters in previous installments that still had room for development (Justin, DJ, Beth, Heather, Trent, Harold, Cody, Tyler, LeShawna, Dawn, Brick, Sam... you get the idea), the use of Leonard feels like such a waste.

As for the main villains, I felt as though the Ice Dancers were really rather flat. Every episode they appeared in had them become more and more malicious until around the time where they started sabotaging the other teams. After that, they basically stagnated. And even before then, most of their dialogue consisted of them either praising their own greatness, putting down the other teams, scheming over their next evil plan, or a combination of Jacques' high-pitched screaming and Josee's enraged yelling. There wasn't much that made them enjoyable to watch at all. All the criticism aside, though, I thought that Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race was a fresh and welcome change in the world of Total Drama and would be happy to see another season in the future.

The Series Redemption
grunionsbusboy16 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
After two rough seasons of Total Drama: "All-Stars" and "Pahkitew Island"; the "Total Drama" series redeems itself with the "Ridonculous Race".

Yes, Don (the new host this year) takes Owen, Noah, Geoff, and Leonard around the world with 32 new faces. The series objective is to compete in culture-related challenges, ranging from walking in the dessert in Morocco to tango dancing in Argentina. The team that makes it to the last chill zone wins $1M in Canadian Dollars.

Characterization: Don is several times better than Chris McLean, on account of making things fair for everyone. Example being is that he penalized the Ice Dancers for knocking out the Sister's helmet light (they won that leg, despite a penalty) and disassembling the train (they would've been sent home if not for the Dater Haters). However, with help from Sanders and MacArthur, Don finally gets to eliminate the Ice Dancers in a close race. With Chris, on the other hand, he lets some people get away with cheating. The most infamous example in this regard is Duncan, with the lighter in Boney Island and the "Fairy Tale" challenge in the following season.

About the returning contestants, there were several downsides to the first Ridonculous Race season:

1. None of the girls from past "Total Drama" seasons come back for the race, as the four returning contestants were all guys (Owen, Noah, Geoff, and Leonard).

2. Nobody that competed on "Revenge of the Island" come back for "Ridonculous Race". Apart from the returning contestants being all male, three come from "Total Drama Island", whilst "Pahkitew Island" only has one contestant. Leonard is the only bland person from the four, given that Zoey and Mike (both from the "Revenge" cast) do not compete this year.

As for the finale, there were several improvements from the two past finales:

1. Don brings back everybody to watch the final outcome. However, only five (six including the Ice Dancers, who lost to the Cadets) teams get to speak about the finale. That's right, no fart balloons, no random selections, none of that.

2. Don doesn't negatively impact the final two in any way.

I must say that TDRR has improve the Total Drama series back to its original glory. I wish Cartoon Network and Teletoon the best of luck on producing more "Total Drama" and "Ridonculous Race".

Not as good as Total Drama, but pretty good
brookswieszczek13 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I just saw Total Drama: The Ridonculous Race, and I've also seen every episode of Total Drama. Just before I start the review, major spoil alert. So if you haven't seen this show, and want to actually watch it to find out what happened, do not see this review. Anyway, so first off, I overall liked Total Drama better, but this is pretty cool. I'll go for the reasons why I like, and dislike this series. About 4 characters (Geoff, Owen, Noah, and Leonard) from the original characters return for this show. But that's not a bad thing. Most of the new characters are rather likable. That, or you just love to hate them. On an opposite note, you just hate them. I mean, I'm glad that Geoff, Owen, and Noah from the first season of the Total Drama returned, but all three of them seem a little less intelligent than they did in the original series. I never really liked Noah in general, but fortunately, he gets a little less sarcastic on this show. That, and I ended up rooting for him because he developed a crush on a character named Emma. As new characters, Emma, and her sister Kitty are likable. Well, at least Kitty was. Emma, at first, was a total jerk. But as she started her relationship with Noah, she got more likable. Now for the last returning character, Leonard, who was on the last season, Total Drama: Pahkitew Island. I thought that was the weakest season. People say that Leonard was in both seasons for absolutely no reason, but honestly, I think he's funny. His belief in wizards just makes me laugh. It's his partner Tammy that I hate. Actually, I don't really hate her. I just never got to know her character. Then again, that was mostly because Leonard, and Tammy were the first ones voted off. The next two voted off are some of the first adult contestants in the Total Drama franchise. They were Gerry, and Pete, the tennis rivals. I dislike them. They jokes were simply unfunny, and they were generally annoying. I'm pretty glad they were voted off early. I pretty much hated how Chet, and Lorenzo, the Step-Brothers, were always fighting, and I never really paid attention to them. Tom, and Jen, the Fashion Bloggers, were bland, and like the Step-Brothers, I never paid attention to them. And as for the Geniuses, Ellody, and Mary, I never really got the point of them. They almost seemed to be opposites. Mary didn't speak until their last episode, and Ellody talked all the time. To other characters who really annoyed me were the Adversity Twins, Jay, and Mickey. No offense to people who face challenges, but everything for them was so dramatic. Another kid character who got on my nerves was Taylor, the daughter on the Mother and Daughter team. She was annoying spoiled brat, and I was so relieved when she was eliminated. I feel so bad for her mother, Kelly. And by the way, no offense to goths, but the Goths, Ennui, and Crimson, just freaked me out. Also, no offense to vegans, but they totally annoyed me. I mean, Laurie, and Miles just went overboard with being vegans, such as believing in various spirits. It just got tiring after a while. Also, one of the Rockers, Spud, got on my nerves after a while. He was constantly letting down his teammate, Rock. I wondered why Rock picked Spud as his teammate. I haven't talked about Geoff in a while, but his teammate on his team the Surfers, Brody, was a little dumb, but still likable. Now, my favorite female character on this show was MacArthur on the Police Cadets. She was tough-witted, strong, and interesting. I also like her partner Sanders. If you're wondering, I saw the ending where the Police Cadets won instead of the Surfers. I though it was a pretty good ending overall. My favorite couple was probably (eventually) Carrie, and Devin. I liked the "will they, or will they not" story line between them. I mean, they originated as the Best Friends, hence their team name. Speaking of couples, I liked the Daters, Ryan, and Stephanie, but after they started fighting, they got pretty annoying. Well, mostly Stephanie did. She kept bossing Ryan around like nobody's business, and I ended up feeling bad for Ryan. Now, I think the best villains on this show were the the Ice Dancers, Jacques, and Josee. They were pretty intimidating, especially Josee. But my favorite character on this show is Junior, from the Father and Son team. I'm about his age, so I can really relate to him. He's constantly embarrassed by his father, Dwayne, and I can relate to him on that. I'm constantly embarrassed by my mother. I think Junior might just be my favorite character in the entire Total Drama Franchise. And finally, a reality show isn't complete without its host. Don (No last name) is the host of the show, hence the title The Ridonculous Race. He's apparently "as smooth as a piece of toast". In my opinion, he's also as bland as a piece of toast. Obviously I liked Chris, and Chef, and Don eventually got on my nerves. He's too concerned about being the perfect host, and isn't evil enough that you love to hate him. I liked most of the challenges, and the characters. Even though the show isn't as good as its predecessor, but it's pretty good overall. The show's worth watching at least once.

A great spin-off to its predecessor
asaloverboy71 October 2015
Being a huge fan of the series, I decided to give this spin off a chance and I had to say, this spin off is pretty good. The drama used in this spin-off is much like its predecessor, the teams are great. This is also a very good take on a popular CBS reality show, The Amazing Race (which is also another good show). My favorite teams have to be the best friends, the fashion bloggers, the father and son, the sisters, the cadets, the geniuses, the surfer dudes, and the vegans. The host Don is also good though Total Drama works better with Chris. Don sounds just like Jonsey and that's because he's voiced by TerryMcGurrin. If you enjoyed both the CBS series, Surivor and Total Drama, I recommend watching this one.

Decent Show and Interesting Spin-Off of the Total Drama franchise
KinoBuff20218 November 2022
Although it's a spinoff, the Ridonculous Race does some things that remind of the original season (Total Drama Island) that are other season of Total Drama kind of failed to do which was the original idea that this is a reality show with actual challenges and competition. RR brings back the fun, campy, realistic, and competitive nature that TDI had. This season consisted of teams of two whose dynamic relationship gave them a unique advantage/disadvantage over other teams. These teams are then in a race around the world to complete challenges and reach chill zones where they can avoid elimination and continue onto the next round.

Overall this show/season/spin-off was alright. I loved the idea of a parody of "The Amazing Race" and was intrigued by the diverse amount of contestants who all had pretty unique relationships. But I was a little disappointed with the execution of the season. At times it felt like the non-elimination rounds stalled the progress of the show and some of the contestants became one-dimensional with the trait they first had on the show. Some characters did have good-to-great character development which some relationships you couldn't be happier to see progress while others just became annoying. This show does wrap up most of the characters by the time of their elimination so I appreciate that. Still though, this show just seemed lengthy and boring at times with bad episodes leaving a sour taste in your mouth even through good episodes.

In conclusion this is a show that non-Total Drama fans could possibly love especially if they already love competitive reality television shows. While I didn't love the show I could see myself rewatching it more so than some other seasons of Total Drama.

Surprisingly amazing
stongejude4 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This spinoff is amazing! It has hilarious, likable characters, who do go through some character growth through out the series. This series also brings back fan-favorites like Noah, Owen, Geoff, and Leonard (I guess). This show is probably one of the best spinoffs of all time.

What will happen next to Total Drama
katzensteinmichael5 December 2016
After The Ridonculous Race we never seem to hear what happen to the original, Revenge of the Island, Pahkitew Island, and this recent season. I like to see them after the show. In my Cartoon Adventures Don now works as co-director of the Cartoon Fan Club with Chris who they were buddies in college, Dwayne Jr. is friends with Steven Universe, Clarence, Flapjack, Lewis, Liu, Lincoln Loud, Wubbzy, and Harvey Beaks; Ezekiel and the Psycho Killer who I named him Rick are working for the Villain League, And the Total Drama plane from Season 3 (or World Tour) is now a preserve for outcast and is named Outcasts' Oasis. Extra Thoughts: The Ridonculous Race was pretty much a good season. It had new likable characters, A great job parading The Amazing Race, and a new host to make me wish if Don is related to Chris McClain

Boring Spinoff
markgorys6 August 2018
This is a pretty boring spin-off of Total Drama Island that really doesn't live up to the franchise's name or best series and episodes. I think the show is really running out of steam and ideas here.

Like what are you smoking total drama.
popstarcool31 May 2017
I wonder what the Total Drama people were smoking when they came up with this idea. Like honestly all the time they just retexture characters. That's how lazy they are to put the effort in. Like they've lost time for the effort that they made there be fewer episodes. That's how lazy they are. They basically killed off their series with this season or well series. I would call it a series. Search up total drama on Google you'll see what I mean. So anyway the whole plot every time on their show or series is that there are contestants fighting to get 1M+ dollars. And so in this one, they go around the world. Basically like total drama world tour. With MOST of the Original cast. Before they crapped on the show and didn't bring any of the original's back for like two years straight but I don't remember cause of course I don't. So it's like total drama. Get total drama in your head for what I'm saying. So they have a different host I'm not lying. Chris isn't the host anymore. It's some random guy they hired to do his place. So the original host doesn't even host this. So people go ahead and fight all over the earth. For 1M+ dollars. So that's the whole plot. And what I think is it's garbage compared to their other seasons if you ask me then yes. It is garbadge.

Total Drama The Ridonculous Race
geostarforce1 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I loved This season big step sup from season 4 and 5. This season is on par with season 1 and 3. For one more than 12 episodes so we got to more time with tag characters. Speaking of which all the characters were unique putting them into teams of two more often than not the two were differ t. For example a dad trying to impress in son entering puberty. Or the times may be alike but develop a conflict that needs to be solved even characters that may have been annoying grew as characters.

I also loved how they used non elimination rounds it added a new flavor yes there were episodes in the past where characters were saved but not this frequently so when every your favorite characters was in trouble you could hope it was a no elimination round.

It was just so fresh and fun and felt like the old total drama we know and love a GREAT SEASON LOVED IT.

Great show-liked Chris better!
mrmonkey-8014916 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
So far, Total Drama: The Ridonculous Race, is a funny show! It's not as good as the original Total Drama, but it's a close second. At first, I didn't like some of the contestants, but they've grown on me. However, I feel they eliminated some of the best, funny contestants, too early in the game, and have left the less appealing characters in it. I wish they had kept the Fashion Bloggers, Jen and Tom, longer, because they were awesome characters, with a super interesting personality. Also, the Vegans, were funny characters, that they eliminated after only a few episodes. I think the host is OK, but he's not as funny as Chris McClane. The new contestants are really good, and I actually like some of the new ones better than some of the old ones! I do feel like there could be more characters like Heather or Alejandro, though. The shape shifters of the show. The ones that really made it amazing. That's one of the only things that I would have to change about it. Looking forward to an amazing new season of Total Drama. Super excited!!

Awesome spinoff of Total Drama.
Retro200614 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Okay. Maybe it's best that there would not be anymore seasons of the original TD at this time, but this spinoff captures the spirit of "Total Drama World Tour". For one thing, it brought back three competitors from "Total Drama Island" (Geoff, Noah, and Owen), as the possible final season, "Total Drama Pahkitew Island", lacked any returns of the original characters, which are replaced with odd characters with flagrant juvenile humor (only few, Dave, Jasmine, Samey, Scarlett, Shawn, and Sky, are halfway decent). Of course, there are many new characters, but not as juvenile as the "Pahkitew Island". Unfortunately, there would not be a second season of this. Sadly, this isn't available on any home medias nor digital online stores, but is available on Netflix. Best TD spinoff ever.
