In the quaint English village of Pagford, council chairman, Howard Mollison, is been to turn the local Community Hall into a lavish spa, but he faces robust competition from local solicitor, Barry Fairbrother, who wants it to help local people.
What a wonderful start, this was a wonderful drama from the vivid imagination of the super talented JK Rowling.
It successfully shows the very worst of human nature, it's a great character study.
What always struck me when I first saw it, there are so many loathsome characters in it, and they chose to kill off the one genuinely good guy. What a waste of the great Kinnear.
It's a totally engrossing and engaging start, it's wonderful, great story, wonderful location work, and one of the best casts I've ever seen assembled for a TV drama, some of the very best names in the business, including Michael Gambon, Julia McKenzie and the supreme Monica Dolan.
Awesome.
9/10.
