- Small town Grantchester near Cambridge's young vicar Sidney Chambers is surprised when his best friend Amanda Kendall ends their walks and picnics by announcing her engagement to a rich man. Unconventional, he accepts to officiate the funeral of local solicitor Stephen Staunton, who apparently commit suicide by revolver in his office. Afterwards, Stephen's law partner Clive Morton's wife Pamela implores him to check the police ruling, claiming it can't be suicide. Detective inspector in charge Geordie Keating initially objects to add such unlike case to his load, but helps out. Stephen's German wife Hildegard acts less surprised, but Clive's story doesn't fit with the wrong whiskey brand according to doting office secretary Annabel Morrison. Chambers even works out the suicide note isn't that although not fake and set a trap for the murderer.—KGF Vissers
