When the rebels land on Scarif, their ship gets checked by a guy, a black Stormtrooper, and two normal Stormtroopers. Then they're ambushed and knocked out, but Jyn, Cassian, and K-2SO come out. There's people watching the ship, how did they not notice the complete change in who came in and out? I guess you could argue Cassian and the guy looked similar enough no one paid close attention, but there was no Imperial droid entering the ship, and minus two stormtroopers seems way too obvious. Even if no one was paying attention, Cassian looked like he hadn't shaved or bathed for 3-4 days. Have you ever seen a scruffy Imperial officer or soldier? See more »
Rogue One arrives with the novelty and impact of Pokemon GO.
This being the last film I have seen in the theater, I decided to write a review.
From the optimistic, hardcore fan-base point of view this film could not be any more hyped. The rationale behind this project was for fans to decide whether parts of this were to be included as canon or not, albeit the inclusion of events that stood for purposeful plot points happening toward the end and signaling that the time line definitively occurred before A New Hope.
The success of the film is determined in strict relation to the presence of hype someone could experience before viewing as those expecting a stand-alone product would be greeted with something vague defected by parochial, lame jokes and failing to be derivative of the humour and personality of the characters that went before.
The blind-shaman character Chirrut Imre, played by Chinese actor Donnie Yen, appears as a predictable and unnecessary trope where inklings of relationships between him and other members of the cast members seem to be lost in the mission or possibly edited out.
The inclusion of Riz Ahmed from mini-series The Night Of, is part of a Hollywood cross-over trend involving Dev Patel where having a cast of familiar diversity is beginning to take precedence over having talented actors more suited for these roles. In the movie his role doesn't exceed tagging along or emphasizing the title of the film in one of his lines.
Ultimately, the attention in this film is placed most noticeably in the progression of the plot mirroring The Force Awakens regardless of it's place in the Star Wars' history, aspects of it do not eschew labeling it as being in the spirit of a remembrance piece.
I could have walked away giving this a 5/10, if it wasn't for one fleeting space scene that succeeded in having it's moment, and was indeed a pleasant spectacle to behold.
