Was the opening film of the International Critics' Week at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
While initially meant to be released in November 2014 and then in early 2015, in the end was only released in February 2016, almost two years after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival. In that time the film was drastically re-edited, going from nearly 3 hours long to a runtime of under 2 hours.
The idea for the film first came to writer/co-director Djinn Carrénard in 2007 while watching an episode of the documentary series L'oeil et la main (2009).
