DDCM is the 4th collaboration between Kevin Interdonato and Brandon Heitkamp. They also starred in and Produced BAD FRANK (2017).
The Movie playing on the small TV set that Kook's (played by Actor Peter Dobson) watching in his trailer, is actually Peter Dobson's award-winning short film, WHITE MULE. The production had no money to find any footage, so they opted to use Peter's Movie.
The three 70's rock/funk songs playing in the film, were from a band called Casablanca in the early 70's. Kevin Interdonato's father was a Bassist in the local NJ group, and Kevin grew up listening to the old Casablanca record as a child. When the time came to find Music for DDCM, Kevin approached his father about it, and they reached out to the owner of the 70's band. This reunited his father Dennis, and Singer/Sonwriter Terry Fabrizio after 45 years. Terry graciously gave his consent to use these never released songs, not even owning copies of them himself. The single record was the only remaining recording of Casablanca, and it will live on forever in Dirty Dead Con Men.
Odd occurrence that was noticed only after the Film was completed by the Producers...there is literally something 'Red' in every single scene. This was not planned. The theme of Red was discussed for the Coloring process, but nothing more than that.
Bobby Spillman, who plays the prison guard in the end of the film, is also the Star of Dobson's short film, WHITE MULE...which is playing in Kook's trailer. You can see Bobby on the TV.
