Christians get axed in this indie slasher sequel
Leofwine_draca2 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
AXEMAN 2: OVERKILL is an indie slasher sequel to a film I never saw. Once again the setting is a cabin in the woods, but this time around the potential victims are a group of overbearing evangelical Christians just asking to be axed. And axed they are, by a massive hillbilly guy with a variety of weapons to hand. When your film's main actress is the reality TV star Farrah Abraham you know you're in trouble, and this film suffers from rubbish characterisation which leads to unlikeable characters across the board as well as some choice bad acting. The film is also mostly padding with the only real bloodshed occurring in the last third of the picture.

Not a good flick. Period.
I love campy b-horror as much as the next, but this was simply not enjoyable in any way. I will simply point you to the ONLY two reviewers who gave this a positive score:
  • one of them admittedly worked on the film
  • the other has only two reviews...this movie, and Axeman 1...each of which were "amazing."

I rarely base whether I watch a film on the often numerous reviewers stating that "the only good reviews must come from people on the film," since most times there are a plethora of other reviews to balance out some of this back seat directing. In this case, it was obvious to me that the two reviewers worked on the film. Regrettably, I have pan this one. Unless, of course, you like your schlock horror:
  • with acting that is akin to a first read-through of a script
  • terrible cgi fx (that don't even pixelate properly)
  • poor film work with non-professional equipment
  • sound and Foley that are equally as bad

I can always overlook some bad acting, or phony fx, but there's a difference between seeing a film that genuinely appears to have been made by folks who believe in the project, and one that looks hastily put together & made with friends on the hill behind your grandmother's house. I have definitely seen worse, but not by much.

I can not honestly recommend this. Most of these flicks carry a bit of gore to make them worth the watch, some clever dialog, or at least ONE facet that makes it watchable. Not in this case.

The wasted film on this?

The everything..

They make Christians seem like a bunch of idiotic, Jesus worshiping, dummies.

Plus.. umm, she's with the Sheriffs office, but her shirts not tucked in and wtf is up with her lips?

The framing of shots, the colors, the lighting, just everything! The acting, dear God! Where did they find these people? I've never seen anyone who could suck this bad at delivering lines since The Room! Except The Room was entertaining!

Axes, Machine Guns and Pouty-Mouths -- OH MY!!!

My boyfriend loved the first Axeman - I thought it was okay. This one? Holy-Frijole!!! So worth all the praise it's getting. Just a fun movie, campy as all get out, fast-paced, gory and never a dull moment. Now me and my guy are BOTH big fans :-). Can't wait to see what he does with the next Axeman movie! He says the third one will be the last - I hope its as fun as this one and brings back some of the cast like a prequel because these characters were just TOO MUCH FUN!!!

I did take off a star because he killed one of my favorite characters in a bad way :(. That was a bummer but the rest was awesome!

Pack my Mossberg

Warning: Spoilers
This is an over-the-top slasher-grindhouse with some of the most "interesting" characters I have seen in a long time. Deputy Darlene Whitfield (Arielle Brachfeld) with her country potty mouth was my favorite as she looks for the axe murderer. Jacqui Holland as Sunshine, a Sheri Moon Zombie type of girl, made my heart skip a beat also. While looking for the ax murderer they stumble on a not so righteous group of Christians and bank robbers who also kill at random. The fun of the film is in the dialogue. Oversized wrestle Bryan Clark plays the killer with a sense of humor.

Decent camp film. Not for everyone. Has cult value. Good deal, free on Amazon.

Guide: Plenty of F-words. Partial nudity.
